Position Summary

Education for Change is looking for a dynamic, visionary, and experienced instructional leader who will lead their site’s implementation of its instructional framework to achieve unprecedented student outcomes. The Dean ensures that teachers implement rigorous, standards-aligned, research-based, coherent instructional frameworks, and receive the necessary support and development to effectively meet the demands of the Common Core Standards. They maintain focus on achievement for all students, analyze and respond to data, and work with teachers and team members to set goals, monitor student progress, and build teacher capacity to use student work and data to guide instruction. The Dean develops, plans, and delivers professional development to increase instructional effectiveness, models effective pedagogy, and provides feedback to teachers.

Director of Instruction

Responsibilities
  1. Provide daily coaching in instruction, including classroom observations, demonstration lessons, elbow coaching, etc.
  2. Support teachers in implementing Common Core-aligned instructional practices for teaching grade-level content
  3. Guide teachers in standards-based unit and lesson planning
  4. Provide pedagogical expertise in research-based best practices
  5. Participate in the development and presentation of professional development aligned to the Common Core Standards
  6. Support summer professional development and planning sessions
  7. Support timely assessment implementation, including calibration, administration, scoring, and reporting
  8. Train teachers in developing formative and diagnostic assessments
  9. Drive data analysis to ensure high student achievement
  10. Lead network-wide initiatives as part of the Coach Team
  11. Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
  1. 3+ years of teaching experience
  2. Experience in accelerating student learning in low-income communities
  3. Knowledge of curricula and instructional best practices
  4. Content knowledge of Common Core Standards
  5. Strong data analysis skills
  6. Success as an instructional leader and in professional development of teachers
  7. Strong interpersonal skills
  8. Ability to work effectively with diverse communities
  9. Excellent communication and organizational skills
  10. Growth mindset and receptiveness to feedback
