The mission of Blackstone Valley Prep is to prepare every scholar to achieve their goals for college and the world beyond. BVP’s scholars will graduate empowered as learners, individuals, and community members to access opportunities and break down barriers.

Apart from academics, we believe that preparing scholars for the world beyond also means experiencing the diversity of the world we live in today. Our network is designed to be diverse, accepting students from the four communities that share a region but differ substantially in their socio-economic, racial, and ethnic demographics. We seek to create a staff with a similarly diverse set of backgrounds and experiences that reflect that of our students, families, and communities. Blackstone Valley Prep (BVP) Mayoral Academy is now hiring dedicated team members who are willing to do whatever it takes to put all scholars on a path to college. Successful candidates should understand and advocate for the importance of equity in classrooms, curriculums, and throughout school systems.

We are looking for candidates for a Dean of Academics and Culture for anticipated openings at the HS.

Deans of Academics and Culture are expected to:
  1. Demonstrate exceptional teacher leadership
  2. Directly coach and develop a caseload of teachers to further develop their instructional skills to engage 100% of scholars
  3. Observe lessons regularly and deliver targeted feedback to teachers
  4. Collaborate with grade and/or subject teams to launch units, plan lessons and conduct and analyze assessments
  5. Provide tools and resources for effective instructional delivery
  6. Model effective instructional practices for teachers
  7. Lead outstanding professional development
  8. Coordinate, manage, and facilitate innovative, motivating staff trainings and professional development sessions
  9. Facilitate regular data meetings with teachers to troubleshoot challenges and make decisions based on scholar achievement
  10. Serve as an active member of the school leadership team
  11. Participate in weekly leadership team meetings
  12. Collaborate with Deans across the BVP network to build upon and refine current curriculum
  13. Assist grade chairs and other teacher leaders in developing leadership skills
  14. Collaborate with scholar support staff members to manage school culture
  15. Work closely with the Head of School, Social Worker and other members of scholar support team to provide a safe and secure school environment that is achievement-oriented and joyful
  16. Coordinate and implement school-wide behavior management systems
  17. Assist teachers, scholars, and parents with effective creation and implementation of behavior plans, including leading targeted Tier 3 interventions as needed
  18. Analyze school-wide culture data and make adjustments as necessary
  19. Monitor and analyze scholars’ attendance, homework, and discipline records and proactively responds to school's areas of need
  20. Assist with supervision of scholars arriving to and leaving from the school, during transitions, lunch, and group events both during and after school (e.g. assemblies, athletics, dances)
  21. May be required to physically restrain and/or physically remove a student from the classroom or other areas of the school as a temporary safety measure using CPI guidelines

  1. Ability to sit, walk, and stand for extended periods of time
  2. May require crisis prevention and intervention techniques, including physical restraint.
  3. Must be able to monitor environment to maintain scholar safety
  4. Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
  5. Noise level in the work environment can be moderate to loud depending on the situation
  6. Must be able to respond rapidly in emergency situations.
Qualifications
  1. 5 years or more of teaching experience, preferably in a diverse public school setting
  2. Bilingual candidates preferred, but not required
  3. Excellent teaching, behavior management, and instructional planning skills
  4. Willingness to contribute to the continuous growth and development of the organization
