Job description

TITLE: Special Education Paraprofessional w/ABA

TYPE OF POSITION: Part-Time (.9); anticipated start date: 8/25/2025; salary range $28.41-$30.14/hour, based on collective bargaining agreement and experience

LOCATION: Hopkinton Integrated Preschool, Hopkinton, Massachusetts

AREA OF CONSIDERATION: All qualified candidates

NOTE: Paraprofessional may be required to work during the Extended School Year (ESY) program.

The primary responsibility of all Paraprofessionals is to provide social-emotional, behavioral, and instructional support and interventions to students in various settings. The Special Education Paraprofessional with ABA assists classroom teachers, the Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA), and other staff, utilizing Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and other methodologies to support students with disabilities. Responsibilities include supporting students in reducing maladaptive behaviors that hinder access to the curriculum and development. The Paraprofessional reports to the Principal and Director of Student Services, with guidance from the BCBA, Learning Specialists, and classroom teachers.

DUTIES:

  1. Supports students and teachers based on classroom needs and individual education plans (IEPs) and 504 Plans.
  2. Monitors student behavior as outlined in IEPs and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs).
  3. Provides discrete trial instruction and maintains documentation on outcomes and behavior analysis data.
  4. Recognizes when strategies are ineffective and collaborates with teachers and specialists to adapt assistance.
  5. Incorporates knowledge of student learning styles and development to facilitate learning; observes and records progress.
  6. Provides crisis support using district-approved safety/restraint protocols when needed.
  7. Uses verbal prompts, redirection, and modeling to assist students in accessing curriculum activities.
  8. Provides personal care assistance if required.
  9. Assists with student assessments as directed.
  10. Performs other duties as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Associate's Degree or successful completion of the ParaPro exam.
  2. Effective communication skills, both oral and written.
  3. Experience and willingness to assist students with personal care to enhance daily life skills.
  4. Training and/or experience in ABA; RBT certification strongly preferred.
  5. Licensing by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary & Secondary Education in a related field is a plus but not required.
  6. Other qualifications as deemed appropriate by the Superintendent.
