Job summary

Peraton is seeking a Linux/Unix Systems Administrator to support a 24x7 enterprise environment. The role focuses on installing, configuring, and maintaining RedHat Linux systems, ensuring security, performance, and availability for mission-critical operations.

Responsibilities include upgrades, monitoring, backups, hardware configuration, on-call support, and DISA STIG compliance. A DoD Secret Clearance is required, with the ability to work independently and in a team to meet tight deadlines.

Qualifications

• 2 years with BS/BA; 0 years with MS/MA; 6 years with no degree; 4 years w/associates
• Active DoD Secret Clearance
• Proven experience in RedHat Linux system administration.
• Strong understanding of system security, performance monitoring, and troubleshooting.
• Ability to work in a 24x7 support environment, including participation in an on-call rotation.

Responsibilities

• System Administration: Install, configure, and maintain servers running RedHat Linux operating systems, adhering to established internal processes.
• Upgrades and Maintenance: Recommend hardware and software upgrades based on growth statistics. Schedule, plan, and perform system upgrades, including coordinating the transition from test to production environments.
• Monitoring and Performance: Monitor log files and system performance to identify and resolve software, operating system, and networking problems in mission-critical systems.
• Backups and Recovery: Schedule, perform, and monitor system backups and, when necessary, perform data recoveries.
• Hardware Configuration: Configure hardware, such as workstations, printers, servers, and tape devices.
• Support: Participate in an on-call rotation to provide timely support for UNIX/Linux-related issues and provide general technical support for system users.
• Security Compliance: Follow standard operating procedures to maintain and enhance the security posture of the environment, including adherence to the DISA STIG (Security Technical Implementation Guide) process.
• Task Automation: Schedule tasks using software support tools and scripts.
• Collaboration & Prioritization: Work both independently and as part of a team to achieve organizational goals, effectively setting priorities and organizing tasks to meet deadlines.
