Job summary

Peraton is seeking a RedHat Linux/Unix Systems Administrator to join our 24x7 enterprise support organization. The administrator will be responsible for developing, testing, implementing, and maintaining the operating system and related software.

This role establishes and implements standards for computer operations to ensure compatibility between hardware and software, according to specifications and parameters.

Qualifications

  • Active DoD Secret Clearance
  • Experience in RedHat Linux system administration
  • Strong understanding of system security, performance monitoring, and troubleshooting
  • Ability to work in a 24x7 support environment and on-call rotation

Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, and maintain servers running RedHat Linux
  • Recommend hardware and software upgrades based on growth statistics and plan transitions from test to production
  • Monitor log files and system performance to identify and resolve issues in missioncritical systems
  • Schedule, perform, and monitor system backups and data recoveries
  • Configure hardware such as workstations, printers, and servers
  • Participate in an on-call rotation to provide timely UNIX/Linux support
  • Follow DISA STIG procedures to maintain security posture
  • Schedule tasks using automation tools and scripts
  • Collaborate with team to prioritize and meet deadlines

  • Active DoD Secret Clearance

Preferred Qualifications
  • Certifications in RedHat Linux or Unix OS administration.

The administrator will be responsible for developing, testing, implementing, and maintaining the operating system and related software. This role establishes and implements standards for computer operations to ensure compatibility between hardware and software, according to specifications and parameters. The ideal candidate will be a proactive individual who can work independently and collaboratively to ensure the stability, security, and performance of mission-critical systems. This position differs from an Operating Systems Programmer as it does not involve altering the operating system's software code.

Key Responsibilities
  • System Administration: Install, configure, and maintain servers running RedHat Linux operating systems, adhering to established internal processes.
  • Upgrades and Maintenance: Recommend hardware and software upgrades based on growth statistics. Schedule, plan, and perform system upgrades, including coordinating the transition from test to production environments.
  • Monitoring and Performance: Monitor log files and system performance to identify and resolve software, operating system, and networking problems in mission-critical systems.
  • Backups and Recovery: Schedule, perform, and monitor system backups and, when necessary, perform data recoveries.
  • Hardware Configuration: Configure hardware, such as workstations, printers, servers, and tape devices.
  • Support: Participate in an on-call rotation to provide timely support for UNIX/Linux-related issues and provide general technical support for system users.
  • Security Compliance: Follow standard operating procedures to maintain and enhance the security posture of the environment, including adherence to the DISA STIG (Security Technical Implementation Guide) process.
  • Task Automation: Schedule tasks using software support tools and scripts.
  • Collaboration & Prioritization: Work both independently and as part of a team to achieve organizational goals, effectively setting priorities and organizing tasks to meet deadlines.
