Job summary

ValCorp seeks professional Switchboard Operators to support the VA Central California Health Care System's 24/7 operations. You will manage incoming/outgoing calls, paging, and message routing in line with VA policies.

Responsibilities include handling emergencies, logging issues, and maintaining accurate routing information while ensuring courteous and professional communication with staff, patients, and visitors.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Strong communication, customer service, and telephone etiquette skills.
• Ability to work nights, weekends, holidays, and varying shifts based on operational needs.
• Ability to obtain a VA badge and successfully complete required background checks.
• Basic computer proficiency and ability to use communication-related systems accurately.
• Ability to remain calm, professional, and responsive during emergencies.

Responsibilities

• Answer incoming calls promptly, route callers to the appropriate department or resource.
• Operate Cisco Finesse System phones, land lines, paging systems, radios, and other designated equipment.
• Respond immediately to emergency codes, alarms, and urgent communications.
• Assist staff and patients with outgoing calls per procedure.
• Maintain logs of malfunctions, call issues, or system concerns and report issues accordingly.
• Prevent unauthorized long-distance or prohibited calls per procedures.
• Index patient and employee locations using approved systems and maintain routing information.
• Follow bomb threat, fire, disaster, and escalation procedures.
• Maintain courteous, clear, and professional communication at all times.
