About Us:

CDC Data Centresis Australia and New Zealand's leading operator of sovereign, secure, world‑class data centre facilities. Headquartered in Canberra with multiple facilities across ACT, NSW, VIC and New Zealand, CDC's diversified operationsprovide secure data centre configurations that support co-location, containerised and hyperscale compute environments with all campuses interconnected with high‑speed carrier grade networks.

At CDC we are passionate about creating an inclusive workplace that promotes and values diversity. Our mission is to attract, retain and grow the world’s best data centre team. Our people are committed, tenacious and meticulous in supporting our customers. Together, we configure the landscape to meet the security, reliability, connectivity and sustainability needs for today and tomorrow.

About the Role:

At CDC, our Service Technicians work in live data centre environments, supporting the operation of mission‑critical infrastructure.

If you've spent time in electrical, HVAC, or industrial environments, a lot of this will feel familiar. Working to procedures, taking safety seriously, and understanding the impact of your work is critical. A data centre applies those same principles to power, cooling, fire systems and monitoring, all operating continuously. The difference is the environment, the scale, and the opportunity to apply your skills in a stable, growing industry.

Data centre experience isn’t required. We welcome people from a range of hands‑on technical backgrounds and provide training and support to help you apply your existing skills in a more operational, monitoring‑focused environment.

What you'll be doing day‑to‑day:

  • Monitoring and responding to alarms and alerts across power, cooling, and fire systems
  • Performing physical inspections to ensure equipment and infrastructure are operating within defined parameters
  • Responding to faults and incidents, prioritising actions, and determining when escalation or contractor support is required
  • Carrying out operational switching and control activities to prevent unplanned outages
  • Supporting planned maintenance and monitoring contractors on site, ensuring strict adherence to safety procedures and approved methods of operation
  • Documenting incidents, maintenance activities, and observations to support continuous improvement

This role works on a rotating 24/7 shift roster (2 days, 2 nights, 4 off) and suits individuals who are comfortable making decisions, following defined processes, and working calmly in high‑reliability environments.

Benefits, Training and Offerings:

Our training program provides tailored content through our CDC Academy, specifically designed for individuals starting out in this role. You'll learn hands‑on by shadowing and working alongside our experienced Service Technicians, gaining essential knowledge to develop your skillset.

  • CDC Day - An additional day of paid leave dedicated to nurturing your health and wellbeing.
  • Parental Leave - Inclusive and above legislative tenure of parental leave entitlements to help you start, grow and care for your family.
  • Volunteer Leave - Make a meaningful difference with 2 days of volunteering leave for any cause or charity of your choice.
  • Employment Assistance Program - Be confident that you and your family are supported with access to our comprehensive Employee Assistance Program.
  • CDC Social Events - CDC's offers staff and their family’s inclusive events that nurtures relationships, connection and friendships across the business. CDC hosts BBQs, family picnics and community events, bringing together CDC staff in different settings.

About You and Requirements for the Role:

You have experience working in electrical, HVAC, mechanical, or other critical infrastructure environments where safety, reliability, and process are critical.

For those currently on the tools, this role represents a move into data centre operations. Rather than performing day‑to‑day trade work, you'll be monitoring critical infrastructure, coordinating activities, and following established operational procedures.

The role also requires a level of computer literacy, as you'll be responsible for maintaining documentation, updating procedures, completing reports, and using site systems to support day‑to‑day operations.

Desirable experience:

  • A trade or technical background in Electrical, Refrigeration/HVAC, Mechanical, or a related field (highly desirable)
  • Experience working in critical or high‑availability environments with strong safety and compliance requirements
  • Exposure to monitoring or control systems such as BMS, EMS, or SCADA-type platforms
  • Familiarity with complex infrastructure or plant equipment (e.g. HVAC systems, power systems, generators, fire systems)
  • Strong fault‑finding, problem‑solving, and situational awareness skills
  • The ability to produce clear documentation, logs, and post‑incident reports

Essential:

New Zealand Citizenship or PR with the ability to obtain a government clearance.

We are committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace where all individuals are valued and respected. We believe that diversity of backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences leads to innovation and success. We actively promote equality and strive to create a welcoming environment for all employees. We are dedicated to building a team that reflects the diversity of our community and we encourage everyone to bring their authentic selves to work.
