Job summary

General Services Department in Albuquerque, NM seeks a security officer to provide twenty four hour protection for City facilities and vehicles, including responding to emergencies and conducting investigations.

Must have a high school diploma or GED and at least two years of security, customer service, or parking operations experience. Required certifications and a valid NM driver's license must be obtained within specified timelines.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Two (2) years of security, customer service, or parking operations experience.
• Possession of a valid New Mexico Driver's License, or the ability to obtain by date of hire.
• Possession of a City Operator's Permit (COP) within six (6) months from date of hire.
• Possession of an expandable baton certificate within six (6) months from date of hire.
• Possession of an appropriate defensive driver course, handcuffing & chemical weapon (OC) course certificate within six (6) months from date of hire.

Responsibilities

• Provide security services for assigned City facilities and vehicles; patrol by foot, bicycle or vehicle to ensure only authorized personnel are on facility grounds, on city property or in city vehicles.
• Regulate the flow of City employees and the public on facility premises and/or city property to ensure safety; provide crowd and traffic control as needed.
• May ensure public and/or animal safety during special events at assigned facility; coordinate with personnel as needed.
• Respond to calls for service and reports of crimes in progress; call for emergency medical or police services as needed; assist law enforcement agencies as needed.
• Conduct preliminary investigations to determine if a crime has been committed; determine whether further action is warranted; document incidents and prepare reports.
• May conduct periodic fire and safety hazard inspections of City facilities; develop recommendations for enhancing security precautions.
• May monitor and operate a security computer system; inspect and verify property and/or vehicles entering and leaving facilities.
• Provide general assistance to the public; receive and document all lost and found articles; respond to and resolve inquiries.
• Prepare a variety of reports regarding security enforcement activities.
• Supplemental functions: Issue parking citations as required.
• Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
