Job summary

Government of the Virgin Islands is seeking a skilled Emergency Dispatcher to manage 911 calls and dispatch police, medical and fire units using a CAD system. The role includes coordinating island-wide responses, maintaining logs, and providing accurate pre-arrival instructions under pressure.

The position requires strong typing, clear communication, and the ability to work in a structured, high-stress environment with strict protocols and shift work.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Emergency Services, Police Science, Fire Science, Criminal Justice, Communications, Public Administration or Business Administration.
  • High School diploma or GED plus two years experience as a 911 operator/dispatcher.
  • High School diploma or GED plus three years experience in a customer service related field.

Responsibilities

  • Answer all incoming calls for police, medical, and fire services and dispatch required equipment.
  • Coordinate island-wide road blocks during major incidents.
  • Maintain logs of calls, broadcasts and complaints in the system.
  • Transmit and receive messages between divisions and other agencies.
  • Dispatch emergency units and provide pre-arrival instructions.
  • Monitor CCTV and alarm systems; liaise with callers and responders.
