Job summary

Schnucks is hiring for a checker responsible for delivering friendly, courteous service while handling payments at the register. You will greet customers, scan items, and ensure accurate checkout.

You will learn to distinguish Schnucks coupons from manufacturer coupons, process payments (cash, checks, debit, credit, EBT, WIC), and maintain register records with attention to cash security.

Qualifications

• Experience in fast-paced retail or grocery environment preferred.
• Must be reliable with excellent attendance.
• Ability to greet customers and provide courteous service.

Responsibilities

Job description

Job Description This is not an official description, but represents major responsibilities a new hire can expect to perform. You could expect the position of checker to include the following:

DUTIES:

• Provide friendly and courteous service to customers
• Regular, reliable attendance is an essential function of the job.
• Greet customers prior to checking their order
• Check out customer’s purchases accurately
• Identify and know produce items and be able to properly use produce and product codes
• Distinguish between manufacturer coupons and Schnucks coupons
• Process manufacturer coupons
• Collect correct amount due from customer
• Use proper procedure of accepting cash, checks, debit cards, credit cards, EBT cards, WIC vouchers and other payment options
• Complete register record accurately
• Practice and maintain cash security
• Bag customer orders
• Change register receipt and coupon machine tapes
• Other duties may be assigned at the discretion of store management

TRAINING

Training will be provided at store level.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

• Bending
• Stooping
• Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds
• Working on feet entire shift (4-8 hours)

Additional Requirements – Internal Candidates:

Store/Facility Teammates: minimum of six months employment with Schnucks preferred. Store Support Center Teammates: minimum of one year employment with Schnucks preferred. Must be in good standing (not on a performance improvement plan or active discipline). If invited for an interview, must have manager approval based on performance.

Compensation Pay Range: $15.15 - $16.45
