Job summary

The YMCA of Southern Nevada seeks licensed teachers to facilitate the 21st Century Power Scholars afterschool program at partner elementary schools. The role runs 2:45pm–6:00pm, Monday–Thursday, delivering literacy and math curricula and collaborating with school staff to ensure student success.

Responsibilities include planning lessons, co-teaching with assistants, and maintaining safety and adherence to abuse risk management guidelines.

Qualifications

• Valid Nevada state teaching certificate.
• 1-2 years of experience facilitating out-of-school-time programming, preferably in underserved communities.
• Bi-lingual in English and Spanish preferred.

Responsibilities

• Deliver engaging literacy and math lessons aligned to standards.
• Collaborate with school staff, parents, and teachers to support students.
• Utilize daily prep period to plan and organize materials.
• Model co-teaching with program assistants and maintain student engagement.
• Attend trainings and staff meetings regularly.
• Uphold abuse risk management policies.

In this role you will be responsible for implementing the academic components of the BellXcel Power Scholars program curriculum at partner elementary schools. The program run from 2:45pm – 6:00pm, Monday- Thursday.ABOUT THE PROGRAM:Research shows that young people from underserved and low-income families often start school underprepared and fall behind their peers as a result, creating an opportunity gap. Through focused programming and support, the Y is committed to closing this gap. The Power Scholars program uses evidence-based curriculum and licensed teachers to support students’ educational readiness, engagement and outcomes, and emotional and physical development while also providing afterschool childcare at no cost to students or families.RESPONSIBILITIES:Deliver relevant and engaging lessons utilizing a variety of instructional methodsImplement literacy and math curricula and activities to meet academic standardsUtilize the 30-minute daily prep period to collaborate, organize materials, and prepare lesson plansWork closely with supervisors, school administration, parents, and teachers to develop strategies for student successImplement co-teaching instructional strategies with program assistant teachersMotivate and hold scholars to high academic expectationsAttend and participate in regular training, meetings, and staff developmentPerform all other duties as assignedABUSE RISK MANAGEMENT FUNCTIONSAdhere to policies related to boundaries with children.Attend required abuse risk management training.Report suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.Follow mandated abuse reporting requirements.Adhere to job specific abuse risk management responsibilities.END RESULTSProvide safe, secure and educational programs at the afterschool site.Impact the overall effectiveness of the association's implementation of the YMCA mission through youth development.Promote a welcoming and inclusive environment for students of all backgrounds, abilities and identitiesWHY WORK HERE?At the YMCA of Southern Nevada, we're committed to providing a superior work environment that offers challenges, flexibility, and fun.
