Urenco USA invites students to join its 11-week Electrical Maintenance Internship in Eunice, NM, May–August 2027. You will work under mentors on real projects impacting enrichment and Net Zero initiatives, gaining hands-on experience in preventive and corrective maintenance, troubleshooting, planning, and continuous improvement.

Ideal candidates are pursuing an Associate's or Bachelor’s in electrical/related fields with a 3.0+ GPA, ready for a full-time 40-hour workweek, and able to obtain site

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited Associate's or Bachelor's degree program in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Industrial Technology, Electronics Technology, Mechatronics, or a related technical field.
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 preferred.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain site access authorization and applicable security clearances.
  • 2 years of college courses completed
  • Able to work ALL 11 weeks (May through August) of the internship program
  • Work Schedule: Professional work schedule/M-F 9/80 work schedule
  • Security Clearance Requirement: CAA Access and successfully pass a security clearance, background verification and drug free screening process
  • Work Environment: General Office and industrial setting
  • Confidential information handling requirements

Responsibilities

  • Support Electrical Maintenance personnel in executing preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance activities.
  • Assist in troubleshooting electrical equipment, control systems, motors, MCCs, VFDs, instrumentation, and plant distribution systems.
  • Participate in maintenance planning, work package development, and documentation reviews.
  • Assist with equipment inspections, testing, calibration, and condition monitoring activities.
  • Review electrical drawings, schematics, single-line diagrams, and maintenance procedures.
  • Support continuous improvement and reliability initiatives through data collection, analysis, and reporting.
  • Assist in maintaining maintenance records and documentation.
  • Observe and support plant modifications and project activities as assigned.
  • Participate in safety meetings, pre-job briefings, and training activities.
  • Learn and apply nuclear safety, environmental, quality assurance, and regulatory requirements.
  • Support development of technical reports, presentations, and recommendations related to maintenance performance and equipment reliability.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

Join URENCO USA for the 2027 Internship Program and take the first step toward a meaningful career in nuclear energy and innovation! We’re looking for motivated students to be part of a dynamic 11-week paid internship where you’ll work on impactful projects and gain real-world experience, all while supporting our mission to improve health and improve lives.

Chosen candidate will work with mentors on real projects that directly impact UUSA’s enrichment and Net Zero initiative. The Electrical Maintenance Intern will support the Electrical Maintenance team in maintaining the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of plant electrical systems and equipment. The intern will gain hands‑on experience in industrial electrical maintenance practices, preventive and corrective maintenance activities, troubleshooting, work planning, and continuous improvement initiatives while working under the guidance of experienced electrical technicians, engineers, and supervisors. This internship provides practical exposure to a highly regulated nuclear fuel cycle facility and helps develop foundational skills in electrical maintenance, safety, and reliability.

Program Summary

Compensation

Candidate Requirements / Eligibility

  • Work Environment: General Office. This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets etc.
