Job summary

Urenco USA offers an 11-week paid internship in Eunice, NM, May–August 2027. You will work full-time (40 hours/week) on the Operations team, gaining hands-on experience in uranium enrichment processes and plant utilities. The program includes mentoring, group sessions, and opportunities to present your work.

Compensation is $21/hour with company-sponsored housing and utilities. Applicants must be math-related majors, be in good academic standing, and able to obtain required security clearances.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree program for math-related majors.
• Must have completed at least two years of college prior to start.
• Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 preferred.
• Ability to obtain and maintain site access authorization and applicable security clearances.
• Able to work all 11 weeks (May through August) of the internship.

Responsibilities

• Achieve operator qualifications up to Control Room Operator through UUSA program.
• Operate enrichment plant and utility systems under supervision.
• Handle cylinders, sampling, and blending operations.
• Maintain plant logs and report equipment/process issues.
• Support training of operators in training and review procedures.

Education

We’re looking for motivated students to be part of a dynamic 11-week paid internship where you’ll work on impactful projects and gain real-world experience, all while supporting our mission to improve health and improve lives. Interns will apply academic theory, develop processes based on specific discipline, conduct research and perform analysis on assigned projects for the Operations department. The selected intern will gain experience at Urenco including the daily life of an Operator, experience interfacing with other departments and hands on experience may be a part of this role.

Candidate Requirements / Eligibility

• Currently enrolled in an accredited Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree program for Math related degrees (e.g. Mathematics, Physics, Engineering) majors
• Must have completed at least two years in a college / or university setting prior to the start of the internship program (for example, you must be starting either your Junior or Senior year)
• Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 preferred.
• Ability to obtain and maintain site access authorization and applicable security clearances.
• Strong safety mindset and willingness to work in an industrial environment.2 years of college courses completed
• Able to work ALL 11 weeks (May through August) of the internship program
• Work Schedule: Professional work schedule/M-F 9/80 work schedule
• Security Clearance Requirement: CAA Access
• Work Environment: General Office. This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets etc.
• Responsible for the protection of confidential and proprietary information received during employment, including keeping information in strict confidence, exercising a reasonable degree of care to prevent disclosure to others, not disclosing or divulging either directly or indirectly information to others, and not using the information commercially or for any other purpose other than the performance of their duties for Urenco. Essential Functions

• Achieve and maintain qualifications as an enrichment plant operator up to and including Control Room Operator qualification in accordance with the UUSA Operator training program.
• Perform the following under moderate supervision:
• Operate enrichment process and plant utility systems and equipment.
• Perform cylinder handling activities including connecting and disconnecting cylinders, sampling, and blending operations.
• Maintain awareness of plant conditions by conducting routine tours, rounds, and maintaining plant logs.
• Identify issues with equipment, processes, and procedures and ensure timely reporting to plant supervisors.
• Perform routine housekeeping and spill clean-up as needed
• Perform plant Incipient Fire Brigade and Emergency Plan duties and responsibilities up to the level of Incident Commander; participate in training and drills related to both.
• Provide on the job training to operators in training for qualifications you hold.
• Understand system design capabilities and operation of the UUSA uranium enrichment process equipment and plant utility systems.
• Create/review new procedures and revisions to existing procedures.
