Job summary

Civil Design Inc. is seeking a Civil Engineering Intern to support our Building Stronger Communities mission across Site, Transportation, Structures and Water Resources. The role offers hands-on survey work, early start times, and field site exposure.

Ideal candidates are pursuing a degree in surveying or geography, enjoy teamwork, and are willing to travel up to 15% for field work. This internship emphasizes mentorship, real project experience, and professional growth across multiple CDI

Qualifications

• Be able to work 30–40 hours per week with start time around 6–7 am.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license and have a good driving record.
• Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
• Enjoy outdoor environments and work with a team.

Responsibilities

• Perform boundary surveys to establish legal property boundaries.
• Perform topographic surveys for contours and existing features.
• May perform construction surveys for municipal, private and roadway projects.
• Utilize Trimble Robotic, Conventional and GPS equipment, Leica 3D Scanning equipment and survey data collection software.
• Import and organize field data daily.
• Maintain accurate field notes and perform general equipment maintenance.
• Adhere to safety policies and CDI requirements.
• Travel 10-15% to various sites.
• Other duties as assigned.

Description: Civil Design, Inc. (CDI) is a multi-disciplined civil engineering firm offering civil site, structural, land surveying, and GIS services. Since its founding in 1996, our team has grown to over 150 team members with six locations. We operate in three states serving our six service lines - Infrastructure + Analytics, Site, Structures, Survey, Transportation, and Water Resources. We have office locations in Missouri St. Louis and Jefferson City, Illinois Collinsville and Effingham and Kentucky Louisville and Prestonsburg.

We are looking for a Civil Engineering Intern to support our CDI mission in Building Stronger Communities through one of our engineering services of Site, Transportation, Structures and Water Resources. This internship would support our service lines by contributing to projects and engaging with the team and supporting our mission of developing a better tomorrow.

Intern Program:

Job Duties:

• Perform boundary surveys to establish legal boundaries for properties.
• Perform topographic surveys providing data relevant to the contours of the ground and existing features.
• May perform construction surveys for municipal, private and roadway projects.
• Utilize Trimble Robotic, Conventional and GPS equipment, Leica 3D Scanning equipment and survey data collection software to take measurements and collect relevant information.
• Perform daily import of all field collected data.
• Maintain accurate, detailed and professional field notes.
• Perform general equipment maintenance.
• Adhere to safety policies, procedures and requirements of CDI.
• Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
• 10 -15% travel.
• Great if pursuing a degree in survey, geography or survey drafting.

Work is generally performed in the outside on various job sites. May be exposed to all kinds of weather conditions including extreme temperatures, rain, snow, high winds, humidity, and dusty conditions. Physical activity is required including walking, standing, carrying equipment, stooping, kneeling, and bending. May be exposed to site conditions including exhaust fumes, dust particles, insects, wildlife, plants, poison ivy, and other environmental elements. Must be able to lift/carry 30lbs in field conditions. Up to 100% of work performed outside.

The anticipated base hourly range for this position is $22-24/hr. Compensation will vary based upon relevant experience, education, skill level, and other compensable factors.
