About the Harris Central Appraisal District (HCAD)

The Harris Central Appraisal District (HCAD) is a political subdivision of the State of Texas established in 1980 for the purpose of discovering and appraising property for ad valorem tax purposes for each taxing unit within the boundaries of the district. The district has approximately 1.9 million parcels of property to assess each year with a total market value of nearly $905 billion. The appraisal district in Harris County is the largest in Texas, serving more than 600 taxing units, and one of the largest appraisal districts in the United States.

You will participate in training during the first week of your internship. This training program will expose you to our culture and provide you with a knowledge base to draw upon throughout the remainder of your internship and beyond.

Compensation & Rewards

Compensation – Interns receive a competitive hour rate. Rewards – Interns who successfully complete the program may be considered for full-time employment after graduation.

Additional Context

The Harris Central Appraisal District appraises taxable property for the county, cities, school districts, and more than 300 special districts such as MUDs that levy property taxes within the district's boundaries. The district appraises more than 1.7 million property parcels annually. The district also administers exemptions and special appraisals, such as productivity valuation of qualified agricultural land, and determines the taxable situs of property.
