Job summary

General Motors is seeking a Quality Engineer Intern to apply data-driven problem solving across production, engineering, and suppliers at GM manufacturing sites. You will serve as a technical liaison among operations, engineering and supplier quality, driving containment and improvements.

The role emphasizes reading part drawings, communicating issues, and supporting launch activities within a manufacturing environment.

Qualifications

  • Pursuing a BS in Mechanical Eng., MET, or Quality Eng.
  • Graduating Aug 2027–Jun 2029.
  • Willing to work full-time in a plant environment.

Responsibilities

  • Interact with production and engineering on part measurement results to part print specifications.
  • Ensure containment and resolution of non-conforming product.
  • Communicate emerging issues for responsible components daily to Quality Systems Manager.
  • Coordinate repair, rework, and containment activities for identified spills.
  • Validate supplier scrap.
  • Work with SPPS on supplier issues.
  • Support PTR Process by running PTRs and evaluating impact.
  • Support launch activities of new products.
  • Support implementation of GMS elements.

What You’ll Do: Looking for a position that demonstrates your high level of analytical ability where problems are unusual and difficult? As a Quality Engineer Intern atGM would drive problem solving and resolutions based on data driven solutions to suppliers and internal customers. Your work would involve functioning as a technical liaison between production operations, engineering, suppliers, and supplier qualityat a GM manufacturing plant.

Responsibilities
  • Interact with production and engineering on part measurement results to part print specifications to assure quality and reliability
  • Ensure effective containment and resolution to identified non-conforming product
  • Communicate emerging issues for responsible components daily to Quality Systems Manager
  • Coordinate repair, rework, and containment activities for identified spills
  • Validate supplier scrap
  • Work with Supplier Practical Problem Solving (SPPS) process on supplier related issues
  • Support the PTR Process by running PTR's and evaluating impact on the product / function
  • Support launch activities of new products
  • Support the implementation and effective adherence to all elements within GMS
Required Qualifications
  • Pursuit of a Bachelor’s degree in one of the following areas: Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or Quality Engineering
  • Must be graduating between August 2027 and June 2029
  • Able to work full-time, 40 hours per week
  • Must be willing to work in a plant environment

  • Proficient in reading part drawings and interpretation of part measurements
  • Outstanding interpersonal and relationship management skills with the ability to effectively collaborate with varying levels of the organization
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to distill complex subjects to a wider audience
  • Evidence of strong character with integrity, honesty, accountability and trust Consistently demonstrates innovative thinking that is customer‑centric
  • Excellent project management skills and the proven ability to manage multiple projects at any given
Specific physical requirements of the position include the ability to:
  • Walk and stand for prolonged periods of time.
  • Read standardized work instructions, operate machines and tools, and perform quality inspections.
  • Promptly detect and respond to safety instructions, alarms, and signals.
  • Wear personal protective equipment, for example: safety glasses, gloves, hats, ear plugs, and safety shoes.
  • Work in a loud manufacturing environment that is not climate controlled (conditions can be hot or cold).
  • Frequently and repetitively bend, twist, kneel, crouch, and reach to perform work.
  • Lift or carry materials weighing up to 15 pounds and periodically carry or lift materials weighing up to 40 lbs.
  • Occasionally sit, climb (including ladders and lifts) and drive vehicles and equipment.
Work Arrangement

Onsite: This role is categorized as onsite. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to their assigned facility on a full‑time basis.

GM will provide a one‑time lump sum taxable stipend payment to eligible students selected for the 2027 Student Program – to help facilitate administration of relocation benefits, please apply using the permanent address you would move from.

Start dates for this internship role are May 24th and June 14th of 2027.
