Job summary

Ghafari Associates in Chicago, IL is seeking a Structural Engineering intern to work fully in-office during May–August 2027. The intern will apply Revit and AutoCAD skills to generate design documents, 3D models, and data sets under the guidance of discipline managers and project engineers.

Responsibilities include preparing CAD drawings, coordinating with engineers to meet project data needs, and producing final documents for review.

Qualifications

  • Pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in an engineering discipline at an accredited university. Students should have completed at least 2 years of classes.
  • Previous internship/co-op experience is a plus.
  • Working proficiency in design software applications (Revit, AutoCAD) and Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

  • Create engineering documents using CAD: AutoCAD and Revit.
  • Collaborate with engineers during design to understand scope and data needs.
  • Provide input for document design and ensure clarity and coordination across disciplines.
  • Produce final documents and check for integration and coordination.
  • Reproduce documents on request and support 3D modeling as needed.

Job description

Ghafari Associates is seeking a Structural Engineering intern to work fully in-office at our Chicago, IL location for the period of May - August 2027.

General Summary:

The Intern, under direction from the discipline Manager and/or project engineer, applies CAD/Revit skills and design knowledge in generating engineering design documents, digital models and databases.

Essential Job Functions:
  • Create engineering documents using computer aided design (CAD) technology utilizing AutoCAD and/or Revit software.
  • Work closely with engineers during design phase of a project to understand scope of the project information to determine design data needs and guidelines for the project.
  • Provide limited design on documents and detail design documents with input from engineers.
  • Make corrections and produce final documents for engineers review. Check for integration of sections and coordination of disciplines. Work with engineers to resolve document coordination and production problems.
  • Reproduce documents upon request.
  • May produce drawings and digital design models in 3D software applications.
  • Deploy team oriented problem solving.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
Employment Qualifications:
Education:

Currently pursuing a Bachelor or Master's degree in an engineering discipline at an accredited university. Students should have completed at least (2) years of classes.

Experience:

Previous internship/co-op experience is a plus

Skills/Competencies:
  • Working proficiency in design software applications (Revit, AutoCAD)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Capable of taking initiative; able to take direction
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written)
Pay and Benefits:

Full-time interns will receive Paid Holidays. The hourly pay rate for this position is $23.00 to $26.00. Individual pay is based on factors such as relevant experience, job-related skills, education, and training.
