Job summary

Reese Hackman is seeking a 2027 Summer Intern in Mechanical Engineering to work with senior engineers and architects on building projects. You will assist with the design and analysis of mechanical systems, and participate in a mentorship program guiding you from academic study to professional practice.

You will gain hands-on experience in HVAC, energy modeling, and integration with other building systems, while attending meetings and learning industry standards applicable to real-world projects.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program in Architectural Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Completed coursework in thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, HVAC design, and CAD software.
  • Basic knowledge of mechanical codes and standards (e.g., ASHRAE, IMC).
  • Experience or interest in BIM (Autodesk Revit MEP) workflow.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the design and analysis of mechanical systems for building projects.
  • Contribute to energy analysis and modeling to evaluate building performance.
  • Participate in site inspections to observe installation and assist with troubleshooting.
  • Work with engineers, architects, and project managers to integrate mechanical systems with building elements.
  • Participate in design and coordination meetings with clients and design team.
  • Stay informed on industry trends, technologies, and codes related to mechanical design.

Reese Hackman is an engineering and consulting firm specializing in the design of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, lighting, low voltage, and telecommunications systems to enhance architecture. We are looking for an enthusiastic and driven Mechanical Engineering Intern to join our team for Summer 2027. As an intern, you will work closely with experienced engineers and architects, contributing to the design and analysis of mechanical systems in building projects. You will also experience firsthand, a mentorship program that guides you through the non-academic side of the industry, how it operates, and teaches you what to expect as you transition from school to your profession. This internship offers a hands‑on learning experience, allowing you to apply your academic knowledge to real-world projects.

    • Prepare and review mechanical drawings, specifications, and equipment schedules using Revit software.
    • Conduct energy analysis and modeling to evaluate building performance and optimize system design for energy efficiency.
    • Participate in site inspections to observe the installation of mechanical systems, ensure adherence to design specifications, and assist with troubleshooting as needed.
    • Work alongside engineers, architects, and project managers to integrate mechanical systems with other building elements.

    • Stay informed on the latest industry trends, technologies, and codes related to mechanical systems in building design.
