Qualifications

• Enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program in environmental engineering, environmental science, geology or related field.
• Understanding of general environmental assessment and response actions.
• Proficient in the use of current technology (tablets, smart phones, laptops, etc.).
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Must be able to conduct field investigations and document field conditions per requirements.

If you are looking to launch your career in environmental science and gain meaningful, hands-on experience, this internship is for you. As a 2027 Summer Intern – Environmental Services, you will collaborate with civil engineers and environmental professionals supporting site investigation and remediation projects throughout New England. This role is designed to provide exposure to the full lifecycle of environmental consulting while emphasizing learning and professional development. Under the guidance of experienced scientists and engineers, you will assist with field sampling, data collection, site assessments, technical documentation, and regulatory support activities. You will gain practical insight into environmental regulations, health and safety protocols, and real-world problem-solving in the field.

Responsibilities:

• Participate with field investigations, including soil, groundwater, and surface water sampling
• Assist with data analysis and preparation of technical reports
• Learn how to interpret environmental regulations and guidance documents
• Participate in team meetings and project discussions
• Gain exposure to client communication and project coordination
• Learn how environmental regulations shape infrastructure and development projects
• Apply classroom knowledge to real-world environmental challenges
• Support a variety of active projects across both design and construction phases
• Contribute to project tasks and deliverables while developing new technical skills
• Collaborate with and learn from experienced engineers, planners, and environmental staff
• Take initiative in your learning by asking thoughtful questions and actively engaging with your team

Preferred location is BETA’s Worcester, MA office. Candidates should have flexibility to work from our other office locations.

Requirements

Required Experience/Skills:

• Enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program in environmental engineering, environmental science, geology or related field
• Understanding of general environmental assessment and response actions
• Proficient in the use of current technology (i.e., tablets, smart phones, laptops, etc.)
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
• Strong technical aptitude with an eagerness to learn
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Strong problem-solving skills with attention to detail
• Must be able to conduct environmental field investigations, including collecting soil, groundwater, surface water, sediment, and air samples; performing site inspections and assessments; and documenting field conditions in accordance with regulatory and project requirements
• Must be able to lift/move objects weighing up to 40 pounds
• Must be able to perform field work in both hot and cold weather (rain and/or snow)
• Must be able to stand or sit for long periods of time
• Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation

Preferred Experience/Skills:

• OSHA Certification(s)
