Qualifications

• Rising Junior, Senior or Masters student in Engineering at an accredited college or university.
• Legally eligible to work in the US now and in the future.
• Demonstrated coding skills using Matlab/Python, etc.
• Strong Excel skills (Vlookup, Sumifs, Pivot Tables, Macros).
• Ability to apply analytical tools such as Tableau.
• Good communication and organizational skills; self-starting and multi-tasking ability.

Responsibilities

• Assist in planning and implementation of outages on turbo machinery from initial planning to final completion.
• Assist in repair of gas and steam turbine components.
• Review operating status of units and track component repairs from technical and financial perspectives.
• Develop optimized outage work scopes to reduce outage turn times and implement across the fleet.
• Develop and maintain specialty tools to reduce outage turn times.
• Assist plants with spare parts inventory recommendations for outages.

We are currently seeking highly motivated Engineering students for Technical Services Projects Internships for 2027 to work in person at our location in Pasadena, TX. These paid internships will last approximately 10 weeks starting June 7th, 2027 through August 13th, 2027. Interns will work on specific projects, designed to help them gain real-world, hands‑on experience working independently under an assigned supervisor and technical mentor.

Description of Role: Internship Outage Services Engineer

Will assist in the planning and implementation of outages on turbo machinery from initial planning to final completion. Will assist in the repair of gas and steam turbine components. Will assist with reviews of operating status of the units on a periodic basis and tracks component repairs from a technical and financial standpoint. Will learn to develop optimized outage work scopes to reduce the outage turn times and implements throughout the Calpine Turbine fleet. Will learn to develop and maintains specialty tools to reduce outage turn times. Assists plants with developing spare parts inventory and recommendations for outages.

Job Requirements:

• Candidate should be a rising Junior, Senior or Masters degree working towards a degree in Engineering at an accredited college or university.
• Legally eligible to work in the US now and in the future.
• Demonstrated coding skills using Matlab/Python, etc.
• Strong Excel skills (Vlookup, Sumifs, Pivot Tables, Macros)
• Demonstrated modeling aptitude creating complex Excel models.
• Ability to apply analytical tools such as Tableau
• Knowledge of the energy industry, specifically the power or utility sector, is a plus.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Good problem solving and analytical ability
• Good organization skills and attention to details are essential
• Must be flexible and able to work harmoniously with others in a dynamic environment.
• Must be able to self-start and manage multiple simultaneous tasks and priorities.
• Must have reliable transportation to and from work.
