This year-round role is designed for nursing students preparing for a full-time nursing career and provides direct patient care in a nursing support position.

The program supports placement at Bryn Mawr Hospital, Lankenau Medical Center, Paoli Hospital (Malvern PA), Riddle Hospital (Media PA), and Bryn Mawr Rehabilitation

Qualifications

  • Actively enrolled in an accredited nursing program (Diploma, ASN, or BSN).
  • Active Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is preferred.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Flexibility and availability to work year-round.
  • Demonstrated commitment to providing compassionate patient care.

Responsibilities

  • Perform basic nursing support duties (vital signs, AM/PM care, EKGs, blood glucose monitoring, finger sticks, phlebotomy).
  • Document patient information accurately in EPIC.
  • Support patient mobility, comfort and safety.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and health care team members.
  • Participate in patient care planning and review sessions.
  • Adhere to hospital protocols and infection control practices.

Main Line Health’s Nurse Extern Program
Position Summary:

As a Nurse Extern at Main Line Health, you will gain hands-on experience in a dynamic clinical environment, supporting our nursing staff and providing exceptional care to patients. This position is designed for nursing students who are looking to enhance their clinical skills and gain valuable experience in preparation for a full-time nursing career. As a Nurse Extern, you will provide direct care to patient in a nursing support position.

Candidates may also apply to be considered for our System Travel Agility Team (Float Pool). STAT Nurse Externs have the ability to pick up shifts at any one of our 4 acute care hospitals.

Schedule:

The Nurse Extern Program is a year-round position (not a summer only role). The hours requirement for Nurse Externs is a minimum of 24 hours per week during the summer after training is completed (June/July/August) and a minimum of 16 hours per month during the fall and spring semesters (September to May).

Shifts available:

Nurse Externs must have the ability to work day, evenings, and night shift, as well as weekend (Saturday and Sunday) shifts. Most shifts are 12 hours.

Hourly Rate:

$18.00 per hour. Nurse Externs who work evening and night shifts are eligible to receive a shift differential. Nurse Externs are merit eligible.
