Job summary

Caterpillar is seeking candidates for the 2027 MIT LGO Accelerated Leadership Development Program. The program offers three rotational assignments across key areas, mentorship from a Caterpillar executive, and a 12–18 month on-site assignment with relocation support.

This is a unique path for MBA/Engineering graduates to build strategic leadership in manufacturing. Locations include Peoria, East Peoria, Decatur (IL) and Dallas (TX), with travel and sponsorship as needed.

Qualifications

  • Strong analytical thinking, problem solving, and communication abilities.
  • Ability to lead and collaborate across diverse teams.
  • Interest in engineering principles within a manufacturing environment.
  • Proven project management and leadership experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in a multi-phase rotational program across engineering, manufacturing and procurement.
  • Engage in hands-on projects and strategic initiatives with senior Caterpillar leadership.
  • Develop leadership capabilities through targeted developmental experiences.
  • Relocate domestically and travel as needed for assignments.

2027 MIT LGO Accelerated Leadership Development Program

What You Will Do

The Caterpillar Accelerated Leadership Development Program is designed to provide experienced professionals with an opportunity to gain hands‑on experience that enables them to make a real‑world impact. MIT LGO graduates who join Caterpillar, a proud LGO partner company, will have the opportunity to complete a multi‑phase program that includes:

  • Participant choice of three rotational assignments that include but are not limited to the following areas:
    • New Technology Validation
    • Autonomy Design
    • Product Electrification
    • Product Value Chain Design
    • Strategic Procurement
    • Lean Innovation
    • Manufacturing Operations
    • Field Assignment (Mine Site Autonomy Deployment or Services Growth)
  • Mentorship by a senior Caterpillar Executive
  • Intentional Leadership Development & Experiential Learning Opportunities.
  • 12–18 month assignment

What You Have – Skills and Experiences

In this role, you will have the opportunity to contribute your unique skills and experiences. Below are some of the most critical skills.

  • Analytical skills, initiating ideas, troubleshooting, root cause analysis, problem-solving, and critical thinking capabilities
  • Knowledge of engineering principles, theory, and engineering experience gained through projects, internships, and/or relevant work experiences
  • Fundamental understanding of engineering for a manufacturing environment, ability to design and implement materials, structures, machines, devices, systems and processes that safely realize a desired objective or invention
  • Organize and manage multiple projects simultaneously, ability to quickly gain, and effectively apply new skills & knowledge
  • Success in collaborating with others of diverse cultures, interpersonal styles, and abilities
  • Strong written, and verbal communication skills
  • Participate in, and build on our inclusive, constructive, and productive work environment
  • Ensure all team member’s contributions are recognized and valued

Degree Requirements:

  • Currently attending a 2-year accredited university/college MBA program and have completed an Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Computer Science Degree

Other Requirements:

  • Expected graduation by August 2027
  • Must be willing to travel and relocate domestically

Top candidates will also have:

  • Hands‑on Experience: Participation in campus design or competition teams, or similar hands‑on technical projects.
  • Leadership Skills: Demonstrated leadership in team settings or project management roles.
  • Industry Exposure: Previous technical internship, co‑op, or other relevant professional experience.
  • Communication Strength: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams.

Summary Pay Range:

$147,760.00 - $221,640.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job‑related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
