Job summary

Hecla Mining Company is offering a 2027 Geology Internship across Greens Creek (Alaska), Lucky Friday (Idaho) and Nevada. Interns will gain hands-on mining geology experience, including mapping, soil sampling, and supporting exploration and production activities.

MSHA and department training are provided; housing is included and internships run May–September 2027. Applicants must be enrolled in Fall 2026 geology or related field and must pass pre-employment drug testing.

Positions available at Greens Creek (Alaska), Lucky Friday (Idaho) and Nevada

As our Geology Intern, you will gain hands-on experience in mining geology with activities varying by site location. Potential responsibilities may include conducting geologic mapping and soil sampling, supporting production and/or exploration geology activities, assisting with monthly reports, and maintaining safety protocols. Depending on the specific site, interns may gain exposure to underground or surface mining operations, drill core analysis, database management, and production reconciliation processes.

Here's what you can expect in this role:

• Training first. Every hire is provided MSHA training in the first 4 days on the job. We also provide department-level training on not just what to do, but safety, as well.
• Potential responsibilities may include conducting geologic mapping and soil sampling, supporting production and/or exploration geology activities.
• Safety is important. Every piece of equipment and each work area must be inspected before we start the day for your safety and the safety of your team.
• You will be paid, and have access to medical, dental, and vision coverage, as well as a 401 (k) with company match. Housing will be provided.
• Internships occur between May and September 1, 2027.

Hecla Lucky Friday is a deep underground silver, lead, and zinc mine located in the Coeur d'Alene Mining District in northern Idaho. The mine began operating in 1942. Lucky Friday, one of the top seven primary silver mines in the world (based on silver equivalent ounces), celebrated its 75th anniversary in 2017. Thanks to the #4 Shaft project, the mine is expected to have another 20-30 years of mine life and will continue to provide quality jobs and community support to north Idaho.
