Job summary

Northrop Grumman is offering a Vehicle Engineers internship within the Aeronautics Systems sector. You will join a dynamic team developing both manned and unmanned aircraft platforms across multiple programs and locations in California.

The Summer Internship Program provides hands-on experience in engineering disciplines, with exposure to drawings, testing, calibration, and data reporting, plus eligibility for consideration for future full-time roles.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled full-time in an accredited engineering program and graduating after August 2027.
• Majoring in Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical, Modeling & Simulation, or related STEM field.
• Available to work full-time (40 hours/week) for at least 10 weeks during Summer 2027.
• Able to obtain a U.S. Government security clearance; U.S. citizenship is required.

Responsibilities

• Construct, troubleshoot, calibrate, adjust, test, and maintain equipment.
• Work from engineering drawings and written or verbal instructions.
• Operate related equipment; conduct tests and report data in prescribed format.
• Perform calibration and alignment checks; make adjustments, modifications, and replacements as directed.
• Analyze, research, and develop structural engineering analysis packages involving metals or composite materials.

Vehicle Engineers to join the Aeronautics Systems Intern Program

This position will be located at one of the following locations: Palmdale, CA / Edwards AFB, CA / Mojave, CA / El Segundo, CA / Redondo Beach, CA / San Diego, CA / Oklahoma City, OK / Emerado, ND.

The qualified candidate will become part of Northrop Grumman’s Vehicle Engineering group. In Vehicle Engineering, we develop manned and unmanned aircraft platforms for all programs in the Aeronautics Systems Sector.

The Selected Candidate Will Work In a Dynamic People-focused Environment Where He/she Will Interact With Users, Customers And Other Developers. As An Intern, You’ll Participate In a Summer Internship Program To Develop Competencies In a Variety Of Engineering Specializations That May Include

• Construct, troubleshoot, calibrate, adjust, test, and maintain equipment, components, devices, or systems.
• Work from engineering drawings and written or verbal instructions.
• Operate related equipment; conduct tests and report data in prescribed format.
• Perform calibration and alignment checks; make adjustments, modifications, and replacements as directed.
• Analyze, research, and develop structural engineering analysis packages involving metals or composite structural materials for product design or operation of product to include structures, mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and electronics.

Basic Qualifications

• Be enrolled full-time and pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree from an accredited college/university AND graduating after August 2027.
• Be majoring in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Modeling & Simulation, Applied Mechanics, Materials/Composites or related STEM field.
• Be available to work full-time (40 hours per week) for at least 10 weeks during summer 2027.
• Be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance (U.S. citizenship is a pre-requisite) as well as Program Special access within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company to meet its business needs (U.S. citizenship is a pre-requisite).

Preferred Qualifications

• Have an overall cumulative GPA of 3.25/4.0 or higher.
• Previous internship/co-op experience, leadership & teamwork capabilities, interpersonal communication skills, and activities (professional/community/extracurricular)

Intern Pay Range CA

• Undergraduate degrees (Including graduating students planning on attending/enrolled in a full-time Master’s program): $17.50 to $39.00 per hour
• Master's: $24.75 to $48.00 per hour
