Job summary

Northrop Grumman invites students to join the Aeronautics Systems Intern Program as Vehicle Engineers, with locations in Palmdale and other CA sites. The internship develops hands-on skills across structure, mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and electronics domains.

Selected candidates will work in a dynamic, user-focused environment, collaborating with engineers and customers to gain real-world experience. Interns must be eligible for a U.S.

Qualifications

  • Enrolled full-time and graduating after August 2027 in an engineering field.
  • Majoring in Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, Modeling & Simulation, Applied Mechanics or Materials/Composites.
  • Available to work full-time (40 hours/week) for at least 10 weeks in Summer 2027.
  • Able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance; U.S. citizenship is required.

Responsibilities

  • Construct, troubleshoot, calibrate, adjust, test and maintain equipment.
  • Work from engineering drawings and written or verbal instructions.
  • Operate related equipment; conduct tests and report data.
  • Perform calibration and alignment checks; make adjustments per directions.
  • Analyze and develop structural engineering analysis for metals or composites.

Vehicle Engineers to join the Aeronautics Systems Intern Program

This position will be located at one of the following locations: Palmdale, CA / Edwards AFB, CA / Mojave, CA / El Segundo, CA / Redondo Beach, CA / San Diego, CA / Oklahoma City, OK / Emerado, ND.

The qualified candidate will become part of Northrop Grumman’s Vehicle Engineering group. In Vehicle Engineering, we develop manned and unmanned aircraft platforms for all programs in the Aeronautics Systems Sector.

The Selected Candidate Will Work In a Dynamic People-focused Environment Where He/she Will Interact With Users, Customers And Other Developers. As An Intern, You’ll Participate In a Summer Internship Program To Develop Competencies In a Variety Of Engineering Specializations That May Include

  • Construct, troubleshoot, calibrate, adjust, test, and maintain equipment, components, devices, or systems.
  • Work from engineering drawings and written or verbal instructions.
  • Operate related equipment; conduct tests and report data in prescribed format.
  • Perform calibration and alignment checks; make adjustments, modifications, and replacements as directed.
  • Analyze, research, and develop structural engineering analysis packages involving metals or composite structural materials for product design or operation of product to include structures, mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and electronics.
Basic Qualifications
  • Be enrolled full-time and pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree from an accredited college/university AND graduating after August 2027.
  • Be majoring in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Modeling & Simulation, Applied Mechanics, Materials/Composites or related STEM field.
  • Be available to work full-time (40 hours per week) for at least 10 weeks during summer 2027.
  • Be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance (U.S. citizenship is a pre-requisite) as well as Program Special access within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company to meet its business needs (U.S. citizenship is a pre-requisite).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Have an overall cumulative GPA of 3.25/4.0 or higher.
  • Previous internship/co-op experience, leadership & teamwork capabilities, interpersonal communication skills, and activities (professional/community/extracurricular)
Intern Pay Range CA
  • Undergraduate degrees (Including graduating students planning on attending/enrolled in a full-time Master’s program): $17.50 to $39.00 per hour
  • Master's: $24.75 to $48.00 per hour
