Job summary

Northrop Grumman in Redondo Beach, CA is seeking optical engineering interns for the Space sector, Lasers & Sensors group. You will contribute to generation, transmission and reception of optical signals for EO/IR sensors and photonics, while gaining hands-on experience.

Candidates must be enrolled full-time in a STEM degree, be able to obtain U.S. government clearance, and be available for at least 10 weeks in Summer 2027. Internship pay ranges by degree level and location.

Qualifications

  • Be enrolled full-time in Fall 2027 pursuing an undergraduate or graduate STEM degree.
  • Be available to work full-time (40 hours per week) for at least 10 weeks during summer 2027.
  • Be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Work with the Lasers & Sensors team to address optical generation, transmission and reception.
  • Contribute to EO/IR sensor and photonics system development and testing.

This position will be located at our Space sector in Redondo Beach, CA.The qualified candidate will become part of Northrop Grumman’s Lasers & Sensors department within the Electronics & Payloads group. This team provides Optical Engineering to address the generation, transmission and receipt of optical signals and energy for EO / IR sensors, optical communications terminals, laser & beam control systems, photonics and other optical mission solutions..Basic QualificationsA candidate must meet ALL of the below criteria. The candidate must:Be a student who is enrolled full-time and pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree from an accredited college/university and will be enrolled full time in Fall 2027Be majoring in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) degreeBe available to work full-time (40 hours per week) for at least 10 weeks during summer 2027.Be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance (U.S. citizenship is a pre-requisite) as well as Program Special access within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company to meet its business needs (U.S. citizenship is a pre-requisite)Preferred Qualifications:· Have an overall cumulative GPA of 3.00/4.0 or higherIntern Pay Range:Bachelor’s: $21.50 to $39.00 per hourMaster’s: $30.50 to $48.00 per hourAt Northrop Grumman, our internship pay rates are standardized and take into account three main factors: the anticipated graduation date of the individual, the cost of labor of the geographic location, and whether the internship is considered technical or administrative.campusjobsThe application period for the job is estimated to be 20 days from the job posting date.
