Job summary

Textron Systems is seeking a 2027 Intern - Firmware Engineer (Weapons) in Hunt Valley, MD. The role focuses on writing and debugging firmware, documenting designs, and collaborating with hardware teams to resolve issues. This 10-week internship provides mentorship, real project work, and hands-on practice to build foundational skills in firmware engineering.

Current enrollment in Electrical or Computer Engineering is required; applicants must be U.S. citizens eligible for a security clearance.

Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing or have completed a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • Willingness to work 40 hours per week.
  • Able to collaborate with a cross-functional team.
  • Capable of meeting deadlines with input from other engineers.
  • U.S. citizen able to obtain a security clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborating with engineers to write and debug firmware code.
  • Preparing and maintaining documentation detailing firmware design and test procedures.
  • Working with cross-functional teams to identify and resolve issues.
  • Participating in design and code reviews to improve firmware quality.
  • Gain hands-on experience in firmware development and testing environments.

Collaboratingwith engineers to write, and debug firmware code to ensure functionality and performance.

Preparingand maintaining documentation detailing firmware design, functionality, and test procedures.

Workingwith cross-functional teams, including hardware engineering, to identify and resolve issues.

Participatingin design and code reviews to provide and receive constructive feedback to improve firmware quality.

Current enrollmentin Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering programs.

Working knowledgeof one or more of the following: SystemVerilog , VHDL, Python, C, Digital Systems, and Electrical Circuits.

Firmware development: Gain hands-on experience in writing and debugging firmware.

Test environment: Learn how to develop and operate firmware test environments.

Collaboration: Enhance teamwork skills by working with cross-functional teams.

Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing or have completed a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field

  • Ability to work 40 hours/week

  • Capable of working well with a cross functional team

  • Ability to complete tasks on time while taking in inputs from other engineers

  • This position requires an individual to be a U.S citizen with the ability to obtain a security clearance
