Here, you'll design, implement, and support these solutions directly impacting employees' lives. Shape your future with a dynamic internship experience at New York Life. We offer opportunities across a variety of exciting businesses, including Actuarial, AI & Data, Finance, Investments, Technology, Underwriting, and more. Your internship journey is designed to challenge you through hands-on work experience that will equip you with valuable skills you can use anywhere. You will build your network through collaboration and connection with talented interns and experienced employees through team-building activities, mentorship programs, and fun social events. By the end of your internship, you'll be equipped with new skills and a network that will propel you forward in your career journey.

Role Overview

The Group Benefit Solutions (GBS) Correspondence team plays a critical role in helping employees, employers, clients and account teams understand important claim and leave information. As GBS continues to modernize its claims correspondence letter suite, this role will support efforts to simplify communications, improve readability, and create greater consistency across products and processes. The intern will help create client-facings correspondence samples, organize letter examples, and support standard work that helps demonstrate how New York Life is making correspondence easier to read, easier to understand, and more consistent across Absence, Short-Term Disability (STD), Long-Term Disability (LTD), Life, and Voluntary Benefits (VB).

This internship provides hands-on experience supporting business communications, correspondence modernization, client storytelling, process documentation, and cross-functional collaboration. The intern will work with subject matter experts across GBS to help account teams tell a clear story about how correspondence is being modernized, while also supporting the development of consistent practices, templates, and reference materials that strengthen how correspondence work is completed and maintained.

What You’ll Do

As an intern supporting GBS Claims Correspondence, you will help advance two key priorities: creating clear client samples that help account teams explain how we are simplifying and modernizing the letter suite, and supporting standardization by documenting consistent practices, identifying opportunities for standard work, and helping establish repeatable processes. This work will support a more consistent, user-friendly correspondence experience across products and help business partners more effectively communicate improvements to clients.

What You’ll Bring

We're looking for a motivated, detail-oriented student who has an interest in business communications, customer experience, process improvement, and the insurance or financial services industry. The ideal candidate is comfortable working across multiple priorities, organizing information clearly, and creating polished materials that help business partners understand and communicate correspondence improvements.

  • Strong project management skills with the ability to coordinate across multiple stakeholders
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret data and translate insights into recommendations
  • Creative thinking and problem-solving abilities
  • Collaborative approach with experience working effectively in team environments
  • Interest in correspondence, customer experience, process documentation, and simplifying complex information for different audiences
Required Skills

You must be a rising junior or senior pursuing a degree at an accredited college or university.

Preferred Skills

Successful candidates will demonstrate both technical competencies and strong communication skills that enable them to contribute immediately while learning in a professional business environment.

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Communications, Business, Marketing, English, Technical Writing, or a related field
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word and PowerPoint and Adobe tools is strongly preferred
  • Strong written communication skills with the ability to make complex information clear, concise, and easy to understand
  • Ability to create polished client-facings samples, presentations, and reference materials with strong attention to formatting, readability, and consistency
  • Strong organizational skills with keen attention to detail and the ability to identify patterns, gaps, and opportunities for standardization
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Interest in Group Benefits products, including Absence, STD, LTD, Life, and Voluntary Benefits, and how correspondence supports the employee and client experience
