Job summary

Merck in Rahway, NJ is offering a full-time summer internship in BARDS (Biostatistics and Research Decision Sciences) within our Research Division. You will work with Sr.

statisticians on projects spanning basic drug research, clinical pharmacology, and biomarker development. A MS or PhD in Statistics/ Biostatistics is required, with 2+ graduate semesters completed and the ability to work full-time for 12 weeks starting May/June 2027.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled students with at least 2 graduate semesters toward an MS/PhD by May 2027.
• Available to work full-time for 12 weeks starting May/June 2027.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Good working knowledge of SAS, S-Plus, and/or R.

Responsibilities

• Perform statistical analysis of data from basic drug research, clinical pharmacology, or biomarker development.
• Collaborate with a statistician and other subject matter experts in BARDS.
• Contribute to methodological research related to AI/ML, HTA, and drug/vaccine development.

In BARDS (Biostatistics and Research Decision Sciences), a distinguished department within our company's renowned Research and Development division, quantitative scientists, in partnership with other subject matter experts, apply state-of-the art scientific methodologies and tools to enable the discovery, development, regulatory approval, manufacturing, and marketing of medical drugs and vaccines for the benefit of patients and global human health.

The department is hiring interns for Preclinical Biostatistics and Clinical Biostatistics and seeking students enrolled in an MS or PhD degree in Statistics or Biostatistics. In these internships, you will work closely with an experienced pharmaceutical industry statistician to perform statistical analysis of data from and/or statistical research related to basic drug research, clinical pharmacology, drug and vaccine development, biomarker development, pharmacogenomics, AI/ML, health technology assessment or methodological research.

This is a full- time summer internship position.

Required Education And Skills

• Candidates must be currently enrolled students and have completed at least (2) semesters of graduate work towards an MS or PhD degree in Statistics or Biostatistics by May 2027.
• Candidates must be available to work full-time for 12 weeks beginning in May or June 2027.
• Candidates must have effective oral and written communication skills.
• Candidates must have a good working knowledge of SAS, S-Plus, and/or R.

The salary range for this role is $$39,908 - $111,111
