Job summary

General Dynamics Electric Boat in Groton, CT offers a Summer Internship program that lets you apply classroom knowledge to real submarine engineering challenges while mentored by experts passionate about mentoring the next generation of engineers.

You’ll rotate across disciplines within Waterfront Engineering – Fast Attack Submarines, contribute to design and testing, and gain hands-on experience on Columbia Class and Virginia Class initiatives alongside Navy partners.

Qualifications

• Enrolled full-time at a College or University.
• Completed at least Freshman year by Summer 2027.
• Pursuing a B.S. or M.S. Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Structural/Civil Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Marine Engineering, Facilities Engineering, Chemical Engineering, and/or Energy Systems Engineering.
• Willing and able to work 40 hours per week for at least 8 consecutive weeks between May 2027 to September 2027.

The Team

The Waterfront Engineering - Fast Attack Submarines directorate plays a critical role in bringing submarines from design to reality. Waterfront Engineering personnel solve tough shipyard challenges, improve construction productivity, and keep testing and delivery on track. You'll be part of a team that thrives on problem-solving and innovative thinking to ensure every submarine meets the highest standards.

What You'll Do

During your internship, you may be responsible for any of the following tasks:

Program Highlights

• Duration: A minimum of 8 weeks during Summer 2027.
• Location: The position is on-site and you may be placed in any of the following locations:
  • Connecticut: Groton, New London, North Stonington
  • Rhode Island: North Kingstown, Newport
  • Georgia: Kings Bay
  • Washington: Puget Sound
• Relocation Assistance: This internship is not eligible for a housing stipend or relocation assistance.
