Job description

The Technical Rotational Associate will gain hands-on exposure to enterprise technology, cybersecurity, data, artificial intelligence, infrastructure, investment technology, operations, and client-focused functions across TIAA and Nuveen through a structured two-year rotational program experience. Throughout the program, associates rotate across different teams, projects, technologies, and business areas to build technical depth, business understanding, and professional confidence while contributing to real business priorities. Technical associates support meaningful project-based work, collaborate with technical and business stakeholders, learn modern tools and delivery practices, and strengthen skills in problem solving, communication, documentation, analytics, automation, and responsible use of emerging technologies.

The program is designed to accelerate early-career development by combining rotational assignments, structured onboarding, targeted training, mentorship, speaker series, lunch-and-learns, cohort engagement activities, and leadership exposure. Associates gain an overall understanding of TIAA, Nuveen, the financial services industry, and the way technology enables client experience, operational excellence, risk reduction, innovation, and business growth.

By working across multiple rotations, associates are able to explore career interests, develop both Analyst or Engineer capabilities, build relationships across the organization, and understand how different teams solve complex business and technology challenges. The experience prepares associates for long-term placement into strategic early-career roles where they can continue growing as business-ready technologists and future leaders.

Program Tracks

Technical Associates have the unique opportunity to select a specific track to focus on during the program: the Analyst track or the Engineer track.

Analyst track: Technical associates in the Analyst track leverage and further develop their skills in analysis and reporting, working alongside colleagues and senior leadership to further TIAA’s understanding of structure, policies, and progress toward its goals. Technical Associates directly contribute to solutions that support sound decision-making, and the recommendations they provide help drive achievement of TIAA’s technology goals.

Engineer track: Technical associates in the Engineer track provide operations support for capture and distribution, processing, quality processes, and problem resolution. This track focuses on ensuring data integrity in systems and adherence to internal and external standards and quality checks, while helping Technical Associates develop technical depth through support of hardware, software, data, or infrastructure components within a specific domain.

Rotational Program Areas:

Chief Technology Office

The Chief Technology Office provides and supports enterprise technology and frameworks that deliver reliable, stable, and secure infrastructure for our clients and partners. We are the technological backbone of the company, ensuring that our systems operate efficiently, securely, and at scale. During their rotations, Technical Rotational Associates will have the opportunity to:

• Gain hands on experience in working with cutting-edge cloud technologies (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud)
• Learn the fundamentals of modern data center management
• Participate in network security implementations
• Contribute to mobile application development and strategy
• Learn about IT service management frameworks

Preferred Technical Skills: Cloud (AWS primarily, GCP in the works), Scripting (Bash, Python, Javascript), basic networking, containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), and Virtualization. We're looking for candidates who demonstrate strong technical aptitude and curiosity, excellent problem-solving abilities, effective communication skills, adaptability and eagerness to learn, collaborative mindset, leadership potential.

Corporate Technology Data & AI Office

Corporate Data & Artificial Intelligence Technical Associates will have the unique opportunity to explore a wide range of technology and data-driven applications while making a tangible impact across TIAA. An ideal candidate is passionate about technology, data, and artificial intelligence, has strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, is eager to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment, with an interest in exploring different aspects of technology and data-driven innovation. Key Responsibilities:

• Gain hands-on experience in areas such as data analysis, data engineering, software development, business analysis, project management, cloud, AI and machine learning.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and implement technology solutions that support corporate functions such as finance, actuarial, HR, legal, risk and compliance.
• Contribute to the development and deployment of advanced data analytics and AI models to solve business problems.
• Engage in ongoing professional development to stay current on the latest industry trends and technology advancements.

Global Cybersecurity & Fraud Management

Global Cybersecurity & Fraud Management is responsible for keeping pace with the ever-changing threat landscape and handling the identification and remediation of information technology risks. Global Cybersecurity is responsible for effectively detecting, responding to, and mitigating computer security incidents, and managing the security technology that safeguards the company's information assets from cybersecurity threats and attacks.

Preferred Technical Skillsets/Competencies: Readiness to continuously learn and grow technical skills relevant to analyst and engineering roles. Besides technical skills, cyber associates are team players, work at a fast pace, and have problem-solving and critical thinking skills. Exposure to scripting languages.

Nuveen Technology

Nuveen Technology is the investment manager of TIAA and offers a comprehensive range of outcome-focused investment solutions designed to secure the long-term financial goals of institutional and individual investors.

The Retirement Solutions team partners across the enterprise to build and execute a comprehensive technology roadmap that supports TIAA's retirement business. The team strengthens core functions, platforms, products, and digital capabilities while continually driving operational efficiencies. Their work is guided by key business priorities, including deepening engagement with consultants and advisors, embedding lifetime income solutions into default plan offerings, securing recordkeeping relationships, and growing participant assets through advice-driven services.

By modernizing technology infrastructure and championing enterprise-wide collaboration, the team plays a central role in advancing TIAA's mission of delivering lifetime income to participants while enhancing operational excellence across the organization.
