Job Description

Job Goal: To assist the teacher in maintaining appropriate classroom activities and environment in order that students may learn effectively.

Responsibilities

• Prompt and regular attendance.
• Maintain confidentiality of all student records, reports, and other documentation.
• Assist teachers with clerical duties, grading papers, preparing materials, typing and/or reproducing documents.
• Assist teacher with bulletin boards.
• Assist students with health care procedures including hygiene and daily care.
• Assist students with physical needs including feeding, toileting, repositioning, and mobility as needed.
• Work with individual pupils and/or small groups to reinforce skills taught by the teacher.
• Supervise groups or individuals at times when the principal deems it necessary for the teacher to be in a professional meeting or at other times designated by the supervisor.
• Accompany groups on field trips under the supervision of the teacher when such trips are authorized for educational purposes.
• Assist teachers and the school program by helping with other tasks as assigned by the supervisor.
• Assist in supervising pupils before, during, and after school.
• Attend professional learning and staff development activities as needed.
• Perform such other assignments and duties as assigned by the supervisor and Superintendent of Schools.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED certificate.
• Demonstrated aptitude for work to be performed.
• Hold an associate's degree or higher in any subject from a GaPSC-accepted accredited institution; or
• Have completed two (2) years of college coursework (60 semester hours) above the remedial level with a grade of "C" or better at a GaPSC-accepted accredited institution; or
• Passed the GACE Paraprofessional Assessment.

Physical Requirements

Able to perform routine physical activities that are required to fulfill job responsibilities including:

Medium Work: Exerting 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 10 pounds as needed to move objects.

Evaluation

Performance of this job will be evaluated annually by the principal in accordance with the provisions of the Board’s policy on classified evaluation.
