Job summary

Arlington Independent School District seeks a licensed school nurse to implement district health services on the assigned campus and provide direct student care. You will develop IHPs/IPHs, monitor health protocols, and coordinate screenings while collaborating with staff and families to promote a healthy school environment.

Qualifications

  • Must hold a Bachelor's degree.
  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license to practice nursing in the State of Texas.
  • CPR certification valid within the past 2 years.
  • Vision, Hearing, Acanthosis Nigricans and Spinal Screening certifications within the last 5 years.
  • Minimum of 3 years of nursing experience.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct nursing care using assessment skills, IHPS, and health protocols.
  • Assess student problems, communicate with parents, and coordinate referrals and follow-up.
  • Notify parents of illness or injury and secure emergency medical care as needed.
  • Develop and evaluate IHPs for medically fragile students for safe school integration.
  • Serve as health advocate for students and maintain confidential health records.
  • Administer medications per district policy.
  • Lead mandatory screening programs and coordinate with staff.
  • May conduct home visits to address health issues.
  • Contribute to health education for students and staff and support campus communications on health.
  • Collaborate with campus principal and staff to foster a healthy environment.
  • Address health needs of general student population and those with identified conditions.
  • Advise administration in crises and report suspected child abuse.
  • Administer state law regarding screening, immunizations, and communicable diseases.
  • Maintain health information confidentially and timely.
  • Coordinate health and prevention activities with instructional program.
  • Facilitate School-Based Telehealth visits with parent consent.

Role And Purpose

Implement district health services program to best meet the needs of the student population on the assigned campus. Provide health services to students. Promote health and safety education for students and preventative health practices for students.

Education/Certification
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license to practice nursing in the State of Texas
  • Valid CPR certification within the past 2 years
  • Valid Vision, Hearing, Acanthosis Nigricans and Spinal Screening certification within the last 5 years
Experience
  • At least 3 years' experience in nursing
Major Responsibilities And Duties
  • Provide direct care using professional assessment skills, the nursing process, individualized healthcare plans (IHPS), and established school health protocols. Provide health counseling and instruction to individual students.
  • Assess student problems, communicate with parents regarding individual students, and ensure appropriate referrals and follow up as needed. Serve as a liaison between school personnel, the family, healthcare professionals, and the community.
  • Notify parents of accident or illness. Secure emergency medical care for students as needed.
  • Develop and implement individualized healthcare plans (IHPs) and evaluate outcomes of skilled and direct nursing care and procedures for medically fragile students to ensure safe integration of the student into the school environments
  • Serve as health advocate for students while maintaining student advocacy by assisting in the protection and well-being of students
  • Ensure that medications are administered to students according to district policy and procedures
  • Establish and implement effective procedures for carrying out mandatory screening programs
  • May make home visits to help with student health problems as necessary.
  • Participate in development of campus health education curriculum, educate facility and staff as needed on health related topics, and provide health education to individuals and group including contributing to campus communications to parents and the local community regarding health issues.
  • Collaborate closely with campus principal and other staff and provide leadership to ensure a healthy school environment.
  • Work to meet the health needs of the general school population and those students with identified health conditions
  • Advise campus administration in crisis or emergency situations and participate in assessment and reporting of suspected child abuse.
  • Administers state law regarding screening, immunizations and communicable diseases.
  • Records and maintains health information in a confidential and timely manner.
  • Establishes and maintains a comprehensive school health program.
  • Coordinating health and prevention activities with the instructional program.
  • Facilitates School-Based Telehealth visits as necessary with parent consent.
