Job summary

AmeriCorps VISTA Leaders are deployed through the North Mississippi VISTA Project to fight poverty by building sustainable education, health, and community programs in north Mississippi. The Leader collaborates with school districts, nonprofits, and university partners to plan service projects and recruit volunteers.

The assignment runs 2026-08-25 to 2027-08-07, with a full-time schedule, housing and benefits, and opportunities to influence local impact across 12 counties in the region.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Full-time work schedule.
• Experience in leadership, communications, or community outreach preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain regular communication between staff, site supervisors, and VISTA Volunteers.
• Strengthen and expand site partnerships and trainings.
• Coordinate recruitment, reporting, and end-of-service preparations for VISTA Volunteers.

Job description

The North Mississippi VISTA Project works to fight poverty through education across a 12-county area in north Mississippi. The project aims to build sustainable systems that connect the University of Mississippi and its resources to low-income communities in this region. Our AmeriCorps VISTA Volunteers are deployed to non-profit organizations and Title I school districts seeking to develop or expand educational, economic, food security, and healthy lifestyle programs that serve low-income children and adults.

Member Duties

A completed term of service as an AmeriCorps VISTA Volunteer is preferred. The AmeriCorps VISTA Team Leader will work with the North Mississippi VISTA Project manager to create a regular system of communication between program staff, site supervisors, and VISTA Volunteers; develop strategies to strengthen and enhance existing site partnerships; develop a calendar of semester site visits; assist and manage the VISTA recruitment process; maintain records of VISTA project reports, assessments, and publicity materials; ensure that the national office has all required documents and paperwork from volunteers; assist VISTA Volunteers as they prepare to end their year of service; work to develop additional project trainings and development sessions; work with the University and Oxford community to develop projects for AmeriCorps Days of Service; create NMVP marketing materials; and plan ways to connect and involve NMVP alumni.
