Purpose Statement
The job of High School Groundskeeper is to provide support to the educational process by performing grounds maintenance services at an assigned High School; ensuring attractive and safe grounds areas and athletic fields; protecting against erosion; performing special maintenance operations; and maintaining grounds for assemblies, events, and recreational activities.
This job reports to Site Administrator and/or Lead Ground Coordinator.
Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
Skills: Operating equipment used in grounds maintenance (tractors, weed whips, mowers, hand and power tools) and adherence to safety practices.
Knowledge: Algebra and/or geometry; understanding of written procedures; writing routine documents; speaking clearly; comprehension of complex, multi‑step written and oral instructions; methods for preparing and maintaining plants, shrubs, lawns; safety practices and procedures.
Abilities: Scheduling activities/meetings; collating data; operating job‑related equipment; flexibility to work with others; problem‑solving to identify issues and select action plans; adherence to safety practices; meeting deadlines; communicating with diverse groups; maintaining a good rapport with students, staff, and community.
Work under limited supervision, follow standard practices and methods, provide information and/or advise others, and have continual opportunities to impact the organization’s services.
The job requires significant lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and fine finger dexterity. Approximately 10% sitting, 70% walking, and 20% standing. The job is performed under temperature extremes and with some risk of injury or illness.
