Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED required; must have PRAXIS, 72 college credits above 100 level, or AA degree for paraeducator placement.
  • Demonstrated flexibility, diplomacy, and cooperation; follow directions and maintain confidentiality of student information.
  • Physically able to lift 50–75 lbs as required.
  • Experience with school-aged children and positive evaluations/documentation for school experience.
  • Recess duty desirable; demonstrates clerical skills and computer lab assistance experience.

Job Description

JOB DESCRIPTION / ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: This position will involve working as a paraeducator on a non-continuing basis to tutorand assist students at theHS level in the Life Skills classroom. The position may includerecess and/or crosswalk duty, providing clerical assistance, and performing other job-related duties as assigned including diapering (for an increased rate of pay). All duties of the position will be performed within the scope ofKiona-Benton City School District policies and procedures, including regular attendance and punctuality.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

1. High School diploma or GED required for employment and must have passed a PRAXIS test, 72 college credits above 100 level, or an AA degree for paraeducator placement. AA degree preferred.

2. The successful candidate must demonstrate the ability to be flexible, diplomatic and cooperative; follow the teacher’s directions; model appropriate behavior; demonstrate patience, enthusiasm and a positive attitude toward working with students with disabling conditions; maintain composure in difficult situations; value the confidential nature of sensitive student information.

3. Physically able to lift 50-75 lbs as required.

4. Successful experience working with school-aged children required and have positive evaluations/documentation for school experience.

5. Successful experience at recess duty desirable.

6. Demonstrated clerical skills, training and/or experience in using computers and other technology applications.

7. Demonstrated knowledge and/or experience in assisting students in computer lab.

8. Ability to be flexible with the varied demands of the position.

9. Ability to communicate effectively and work with a variety of people.

10. Ability to follow directions in all situations.

11. Willingness to work with all children within the school regardless of abilities and in 1:1 settings.

12. Willingness to support and promote the classroom teachers and to maintain a warm and friendly relationship with those teachers.

13. Must be able and available to work Monday-Friday.

14. Positive evaluations and recommendations required.

15. Must be willing to work in the home setting for tutoring.

16. Must also be willing to work at the public library.

17. Other duties as assigned.

2. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be assigned to work in outside weather/environmental conditions, and may be exposed to weather/environmental extremes, including wet and/or humid conditions, cold, heat, and allergens.
