San Francisco Unified School District is seeking a 2026-2027 Transitional Kindergarten (TK) Instructional Aide to support implementation of a developmentally appropriate program under the supervision of a classroom teacher.

The role focuses on assisting with instruction, classroom routines, and supervision to foster young children's learning and independence in a safe, nurturing environment. The position aligns with SFUSD’s commitment to equity and student-centered learning.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent plus required exams (CBEST or Instructional Aide Exam).
• Option of 48 college units or an associate degree or higher.
• Completion of six semester units of Early Childhood Education (ECE).

Responsibilities

• Assist the teacher with developmentally appropriate, play-based instruction.
• Support small group and individual instruction in early literacy and math.
• Help with classroom routines, supervision, and behavior management.
• Prepare materials and maintain student records and portfolios.
• Provide basic first aid and communicate with families as needed.

Transitional Kindergarten (TK) Instructional Aide (A01)

Under the supervision of the classroom teacher, the TK Instructional Aide supports the implementation of a developmentally appropriate Transitional Kindergarten program. The aide assists with instruction, classroom routines, and supervision to promote young children’s learning, independence, and overall development in a safe and nurturing environment.

Key Responsibilities and Role Details

Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

• Assist the teacher in planning and implementing developmentally appropriate, play-based instruction aligned with early learning standards
• Support small group and individual instruction in early literacy, language development, foundational math, and social-emotional skills
• Help explain concepts, guide learning activities, and reinforce lessons through hands-on experiences
• Prepare, organize, and maintain instructional materials, supplies, and classroom learning environments
• Observe and support student progress; assist with documentation and maintaining student work samples or portfolios
• Supervise students during classroom activities, transitions, outdoor play, meals, and field trips to ensure safety and appropriate behavior
• Support positive behavior using consistent, non-punitive strategies aligned with classroom and school expectations
• Assist with snack and meal preparation and supervision
• Support daily routines, including restroom supervision and classroom setup/cleanup
• Monitor common areas (e.g., yard, cafeteria, hallways) as assigned
• Provide basic first aid as needed and report injuries or concerns to appropriate staff
• Assist with communication with families and support a welcoming classroom environment
• Maintain records related to attendance, materials, and classroom activities
• Perform other related duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

• Educational Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent AND passed District Instructional Aide Exam; OR
  • High school diploma or equivalent AND passed CBEST; OR
  • High school diploma or equivalent AND 48 college units (official transcripts required); OR
  • Associate's degree or higher
  • Completion of six (6) semester units of Early Childhood Education (ECE)

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working with young children in an educational setting
• Bilingual skills (e.g., Cantonese or Spanish) desirable
