Job Description

Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Develop and implement individualized plans for specially designed instruction for students to develop competencies and skills to maximize opportunities, independent living, economic self-sufficiency and full participation in society.

Qualifications

Education/Certification:

  • Texas certification standards required for assignment as set by the State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC)
  • ESL Certification preferred or required within two (2) years of employment
  • Meet NCLB Highly Qualified criteria as required by assignment

Special Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Knowledge of curriculum and instruction in assigned position
  • Ability to instruct students and manage behavior
  • Ability to plan and collaborate with general education teachers to provide high quality specially designed instruction (SDI)
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of specially designed instruction to address student needs related to disability conditions
  • Maintains accurate records as required by law, district policy, and regulations
  • Proficient in digital tools including Google Suite, Microsoft 365, ARD/IEP software, and learning management systems

Experience:

  • At least two (2) years direct work experience with individuals with autism

Major Responsibilities and Duties
  • Collaborate with general education teachers to provide appropriate SDI for students with disabilities in inclusive classroom.
  • Implement all STRIDE program critical components consistently.
  • Utilize best-practice behavioral intervention strategies.
  • Facilitate or manage paraprofessionals’ responsibilities in assisting with behavior intervention.
  • Serve a diverse population of students participating in state/federal programs and general education.
  • Establish and maintain professional relationships and open communication with parents, students, colleagues, and community members.
  • Abide by the Alief ISD Code of Civility.
  • Maintain an acceptable attendance rate – 94% annually (excluding approved leaves and emergencies).
  • Confer with and foster professional relationships with students, parents, colleagues, and administrators regularly per building and district guidelines.
  • Plan and participate in all meetings and provide appropriate documentation for students regarding IEP development, reviews, progress, grades, dismissals, conferences, etc.
  • Comply with state and federal laws, district policies, rules, regulations, and administrative directives as they exist or may be amended.
  • Demonstrate and maintain competence in delivering PCS in accordance with IEP requirements.
  • Perform PCS tasks as specified in each student’s IEP.
  • Maintain timely and accurate documentation of all SHARS billable PCS activities.
Instructional Strategies
  • Plan and teach a program of study in accordance with the Texas Education Agency (TEA), district mandates and curricula, and individual education plan.
  • Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill TEA, district’s curriculum program, and IEP requirements, and provide written evidence of preparation.
  • Implement instructional and linguistic modifications and/or accommodations per ARD and LPAC committees.
  • Work cooperatively with general education teachers to support special education students according to IEP guidelines.
  • Determine measurable instructional goals, objectives, and SDI according to students’ disability needs.
  • Assess ongoing accomplishments and needs, maintain records, provide immediate feedback and disseminate progress reports regularly per IEP and district guidelines, and administer state assessment as appropriate.
  • Supervise implementation of IEP goals/objectives by a paraprofessional including SDI designed by the IEP.
Classroom Management and Organization
  • Create an inviting, risk‑free, supportive, and warm learning environment suitable for students’ developmental level and interests.
  • Implement appropriate behavior management systems in alignment with student behavior intervention plans and district policies.
  • Manage student behavior in accordance with behavior intervention plans, Student Code of Conduct, and handbook.
  • Take all necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Assist in selecting books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
  • Compile, maintain, and file all required reports, records, and documents.
Professional Growth and Development
  • Participate in professional development activities to improve job‑related skills.
  • Maintain certification in Alief‑approved crisis management training.
  • Comply with state, district, and federal laws and regulations.
  • Attend faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
Other Responsibilities
  • Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  • Maintain technology competence to meet district needs.
  • Implement alternative instruction methods as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Evaluation

Performance will be evaluated per the Board’s policy on evaluation of the Texas Teacher Evaluation and Support System (T‑TESS).

Physical and Environmental Factors

Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including computer and peripherals.

Posture: Standing, prolonged sitting, occasional kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing, pulling, and twisting.

Motion: Repetitive hand motions, frequent keyboarding and mouse use, occasional reaching; may require climbing stairs and reaching over head. May require therapeutic holds in emergencies after training.

Lifting: Moderate lifting and carrying up to 30 pounds; occasional heavy lifting up to 60 pounds.

Environment: May work prolonged or irregular hours; frequent district‑wide travel; all campuses are temperature‑controlled with hard surface floors.

Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress.

Salary

Minimum teacher salary is $66,500 (base $64,100 + $2,400 Teacher Retention Allotment stipend). Salary is based on 187 days; working less than 187 days results in lower salary.
