Job summary

Gallup-Mckinley County Schools is seeking an Athletic Coach for Mid Football at Ramah. The role focuses on developing football skills, strategy and conditioning within a seasonal fall program, with expectations to model positive character and leadership.

The coach will supervise a staff of coaches, coordinate practice times, and ensure safety and sportsmanship. Evening and weekend commitments are required, with on-site attendance mandatory.

Qualifications

• Must hold or be able to obtain Athletic Coaching License (7-12) from NM PED.
• Must complete Fundamentals of Coaching online exam offered through NM Activities Association.
• Ability to organize and supervise a total sports program.
• Previous successful coaching experience in assigned sport (major sports).
• Head coach must have substantial knowledge of technical aspects and stay current.

Responsibilities

• Report to the athletic director for objectives and final evaluation with principals.
• On-site attendance is mandatory.
• Supervises head and assistant coaches and middle school coaches in conjunction with athletic director and principals.
• Instruct athletes in fundamental skills, strategy and physical training for individual and team success.
• Instruct and demonstrate behaviors that develop character, self-discipline, self-confidence and pride.
• Work with students in sports and provide practice support; work evenings and weekends.

ATHLETIC COACHING LICENSE, 7-12

High School Diploma or Equivalency

AND

Must hold or have the ability to obtain an Athletic Coaching License ( https://webnew.ped.state.nm.us/bureaus/licensure/how-to-apply/athletic-coach-7-12/ ) from the New Mexico Public Education Department as well as completing the Fundamentals of Coaching online exam offered through the New Mexico Activities Association. QUALIFICATIONS:

REPORTS TO: The athletic director, who provides overall objectives and final evaluation in conjunction with the high school principals.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: On-site attendance is mandatory for this position.

SUPERVISES: In several instances, the head coach must advise, coordinate and support a staff of high school assistant coaches and middle school coaches in conjunction with the athletic director and respective principal.

JOB GOAL: To instruct athletes in the fundamental skills, strategy and physical training necessary for them to realize a degree of individual and team success. At the same time, the coach must instruct and demonstrate behaviors that lead to socially acceptable character development, self-discipline, self-confidence, and pride of accomplishment in the student athletes. To upgrade his/her knowledge and skills through coaching clinics, observations, consultation, etc. Work with students interested in sports, provide necessary practice support and advice for a team to be successful against opposing teams in a sports season. Teach and enforce rules and regulations. Involves work on evenings and weekends.
