Job summary

Gallup-Mckinley County Schools invites applications for the Athletic Coach – Head Baseball at Tohatchi High School for the 2026-2027 SY. The on-site head coach oversees a total sports program and reports to the athletic director and principals.

Requirements include an ATHLETIC COACHING LICENSE (7-12) and a High School Diploma or Equivalency; licensure and exam completion are required. Evening/weekend work is expected.

Qualifications

• Has the ability to organize and supervise a total sports program.
• Has previous successful coaching experience in assigned sport.
• The head coach must have substantial knowledge of the technical aspects of the sport and continue to examine new theories and procedures.
• The head coach must serve as an appropriate role model for student athletes through his/her instructions and actions.

Responsibilities

• To instruct athletes in the fundamental skills, strategy and physical training necessary for them to realize a degree of individual and team success.
• Supervise high school and middle school coaches in conjunction with the athletic director and principal.
• Work with students interested in sports, provide practice support and advice.
• Teach and enforce rules and regulations; some evenings and weekend work.

• REPORTS TO: The athletic director, who provides overall objectives and final evaluation in conjunction with the high school principals

Work Environment

On-site attendance is mandatory for this position.

Supervises

In several instances, the head coach must advise, coordinate and support a staff of high school assistant coaches and middle school coaches in conjunction with the athletic director and respective principal.

Job Goal

To instruct athletes in the fundamental skills, strategy and physical training necessary for them to realize a degree of individual and team success. At the same time, the coach must instruct and demonstrate behaviors that lead to socially acceptable character development, self-discipline, self-confidence, and pride of accomplishment in the student athletes. To upgrade his/her knowledge and skills through coaching clinics, observations, consultation, etc.

Other Responsibilities

Work with students interested in sports, provide necessary practice support and advice for a team to be successful against opposing teams in a sports season. Teach and enforce rules and regulations. Involves work on evenings and weekends.
