Position Overview

KIPP NYC Special Education Teachers work closely both as a team and with General Education Teachers to plan targeted, high‑leverage interventions for their students. Our Special Education Teachers first diagnose student challenges and then design individualized programs and differentiated strategies to meet specific needs. The team serves students with IEPs, diagnosed disabilities, and those identified as at‑risk.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Teach a rigorous college‑preparatory curriculum that blends the school’s standards with New York State standards.
• Deliver instruction in a high‑quality, engaging manner.
• Commit to continuous professional and personal growth through collaboration with a team of teachers.
• Use data to drive instructional decisions.
• Continuously assess student progress and communicate results to families and colleagues.
• Provide individual or small‑group instruction for students needing additional assistance.
• Model a “whatever it takes” spirit to ensure each student’s success.
• Model the school’s values in all communications with students, families, and staff.

Qualifications

• Strong interpersonal skills that foster a collegial environment and embody characteristics such as zest, grit, social intelligence, gratitude, and a sense of humor.
• At least two years of teaching experience is strongly preferred.
• New York State Special Education teacher certification is highly recommended.
• Bachelor’s degree required.

Compensation & Benefits

Competitive salary ranging from $70,829‑$136,704, determined by an equitable compensation scale that accounts for experience, certification, and longevity within the KIPP network. A generous benefits package includes medical, dental, and vision coverage; time off (five school vacation weeks, sick and personal days, extended summer break); up to 12 weeks of 100% parental leave; Bright Horizon Child and Elder Care; life insurance and short‑/long‑term disability; and incentives such as an 8‑week paid sabbatical after ten years, professional development funds, and tuition reimbursement.
