SUMMARY:

The elementary teacher is responsible for the instruction of students assigned to his/her classroom and general supervision of all students. The teacher’s role is to create a flexible elementary grade program and class environment favorable to learning and personal growth; to establish effective rapport with students; to motivate students to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for elementary education, in accordance with each student’s ability; and to establish good relationships with parents and with other staff members.

This is an itinerant position serving both Harrington and Walters Elementary.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

:

• Minimum of a Bachelor\'s degree or higher
• Valid Michigan elementary teaching certificate

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Teach skills in music appreciation, harmony and explorations in music and/or to students, utilizing courses of study and grade level expectations adopted by the Board of Education
• Instruct students in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and the administrative regulations and procedures of the school district
• Plan a balanced music program and organize daily class time so that preparation, rehearsal and instruction can be accomplished within the allotted time
• Provide individual and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student
• Utilize repertoire of various types of music literature, including traditional and contemporary, that are appropriate for the ages and skill levels of students
• Control the storage and use of school-owned property
• Establish and maintain standards of student behavior to provide an orderly, productive environment during practice, group rehearsals and musical performances
• Evaluate each student’s musical growth and performance and report progress on appropriate forms
• Plan, rehearse and direct students in musical performance programs
• Assist in the selection and requisitioning of books, musical instruments and instructional aids and maintain required inventory records
• Communicate with parents through conferences and other means to discuss students’ progress and to interpret the school program
• Maintain professional competence through in-service education provided by the district and/or in self-selected professional growth activities
• Demonstrate an understanding of the district\'s mission, vision and strategic priorities and actively works to advance them through daily practice and professional conduct
• Contribute to the culture and climate of the district by modeling its core values, fostering a collaborative and inclusive environment and serving as a committed representative of the district\'s identity and purpose in all interactions with students, families, staff and the broader community
• Read and be familiar with the School Student Handbook and Policy Manual of Marshall Public Schools. Strict compliance with all rules, regulations and policies is required.
• Meet all contractual obligations as outlined in the Marshall Teachers’ Association Master Agreement
• Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers, and parents
• Perform other related duties that may be assigned by the building principal
