Job summary

Wayne County Public Schools is seeking a dedicated Bus Driver to provide safe and efficient transportation for students on a specified route according to a timetable. This role requires a NC driver's license and CDL with P and S endorsements, along with strict adherence to school and DOT safety standards.

The position is a ten-month work year with at-will employment. Report to TIMS Coordinator/ Principal. Starting hourly wage ranges from $17.32 to $22.33 based on qualifications and experience.

Qualifications

• Must have a valid North Carolina driver's license and CDL with P and S endorsements.
• CDL with P and S endorsements required.
• Ability to pass State Skill Test and DOT physical.
• Ability to work with students and maintain discipline on the bus.
• Ability to read maps and follow routes.

Responsibilities

• Provide safe and efficient transportation of students on assigned route.
• Adhere to schedule and traffic regulations.
• Maintain bus cleanliness and complete required reports.
• Report any accidents or safety concerns as required.
• Ensure students board and disembark at authorized stops.

REPORTS TO:

TIMS Coordinator/ Principal

JOB GOAL:

To provide safe and efficient transportation of students over a specified route, according to a time schedule, for curriculum and extracurricular activities.

Essential Functions And Responsibilities

• Complies with all traffic ordinances.
• Observes all mandatory safety regulations for school buses.
• Maintains discipline when students are on the bus.
• Reports undisciplined students to the proper authority.
• Keep the assigned bus clean.
• Keep to the assigned schedule.
• Check the bus before each operation for mechanical defects.
• Notifies the proper authority in case of mechanical failure or lateness.
• Discharges students only at authorized stops.
• Reports all accidents and completes required reports.
• Stays current with state rules and regulations pertaining to driving and transporting students.
• Performs related duties and responsibilities as requested by the Director.

Terms of Employment:

Ten-month work year/At Will/FLSA NonExempt

Starting Salary and/or Grade:

Grade Busdriver: ($17.32 - $22.33 per hour)

Evaluation:

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board and local policy on evaluation of personnel.
