Young World Physical Education in Asheboro, NC, is seeking a dedicated Bus Driver to operate school buses on assigned routes. This role includes ensuring safety and efficiency in transporting students, performing inspections, and maintaining discipline among passengers.
The ideal candidate will possess a valid North Carolina Commercial Driver's License and demonstrate safe driving practices. Responsibilities extend to maintaining clean and safe bus conditions and collaborating with school personnel to support transportation needs.
Starting Date: Immediately
Under general supervision, operates a school bus on assigned routes and schedules to provide safe and efficient transportation so that students may enjoy the fullest possible advantage from the programs and offerings of the school system. Responsibilities include performing pre- and post-trip inspections, operating the bus, obeying all traffic laws and school bus regulations, observing safety regulations and standards, and maintaining discipline of students assigned to ride the bus. The employee is also responsible for completing all required reports and securing the assigned bus before leaving the vehicle at the conclusion of a run or route. The employee must exercise tact and courtesy in maintaining acceptable relations with parents/guardians of students transported and with school personnel. Reports to a Transportation Supervisor for bus-driving duties.
Graduation from high school and some experience driving large vehicles with experience in transporting humans preferred; or any equivalent combination of training and experience providing the required skills, knowledge and abilities.
Must possess and maintain a valid North Carolina Class A or Class B Commercial Driver’s License with school bus certification.
Must be physically able to operate a school bus. Must be able to quickly decelerate the bus and firmly apply the brake in an emergency. Must be able to turn the steering wheel rapidly. Must be able to begin seated with seat belt fastened, parking brake released, engine running, secure bus (parking brake set, key removed), rise from seat, exit through rearmost emergency exit, and assist passengers in exiting within 20 seconds. Must exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 25 pounds frequently, and up to 10 pounds continuously. Physical demand requirements are medium work.

Ability to read correspondence, reports, instructions, etc.; prepare correspondence, reports, etc.; speak to people with poise, voice control and confidence.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagrammatic form; to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Ability to record and deliver information, explain procedures, follow oral and written instructions, and communicate effectively in standard English.
Ability to utilize mathematical formulas; add and subtract totals.
Ability to inspect items for proper length, width, and shape.
Ability to coordinate hands and eyes rapidly and accurately while operating a school bus.
Ability to handle a variety of items, school bus equipment, control knobs, switches, etc. Minimum eye/hand/foot coordination required.
Ability to recognize the colors of traffic signals and devices showing standard red, green, and amber.
Ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions, adaptable to performing under stress and confronting persons acting under stress.
Ability to talk and/or hear: hearing sufficient to distinguish warning sounds made by horns, screeching tires, sirens, grade-crossing alarms, or train whistles; hearing a forced whispered voice in the better ear at a distance of five feet considered adequate.
