Job summary

Gallup-Mckinley County Schools seeks an Athletic Coach – Head Track Coach for Navajo Pine High School. This on-site position requires leadership of the track program, coaching athletes, and ensuring safe, effective practices within a Spring Sport contract.

The ideal candidate holds an Athletic Coaching License (7-12), a high school diploma, and must obtain the coaching license and complete NM Fundamentals of Coaching exam.

Qualifications

• Has previous successful coaching experience in assigned sport.
• Must have substantial knowledge of the technical aspects of the sport and stay updated on new theories.
• Must serve as a positive role model for student athletes through actions and instructions.

ATHLETIC COACHING LICENSE,7-12

High School Diploma or Equivalency

AND

Must hold or have the ability to obtain an Athletic Coaching License (https://webnew.ped.state.nm.us/bureaus/licensure/how-to-apply/athletic-coach-7-12/ )

from the New Mexico Public Education Department as well as completing the Fundamentals of Coaching online exam offered through the New Mexico Activities Association. (www.nmact.org)

• The head coach must serve as an appropriate role model for student athletes through
  his/her instructions and actions.

REPORTS TO: The athletic director, who provides overall objectives and final evaluation in
conjunction with the high school principals

WORK ENVIRONMENT: On-site attendance is mandatory for this position.

SUPERVISES: In several instances, the head coach must advise, coordinate and support a staff of
high school assistant coaches and middle school coaches in conjunction with the
athletic director and respective principal.

JOB GOAL: To instruct athletes in the fundamental skills, strategy and physical training
necessary for them to realize a degree of individual and team success. At the same
time, the coach must instruct and demonstrate behaviors that lead to socially
acceptable character development, self-discipline, self-confidence, and pride of
accomplishment in the student athletes. To upgrade his/her knowledge and skills
through coaching clinics, observations, consultation, etc.

Work with students interested in sports, provide necessary practice support and advice for a team to be successful against opposing teams in a sports season. Teach and enforce rules and regulations. Involves work on evenings and weekends.
