Job Description

Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree from accredited university
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements or training for subject and level assigned
  • Current ESL Certification required within 2 years of employment for teachers hired in the 2010-2011 school year
  • Demonstrated competency in the core academic subject area assigned
  • Gifted Teachers must have 30 hours of gifted approved hours required
  • Knowledge of subject matter in assigned position
  • Knowledge of curriculum and instruction
  • Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Completion of student teaching or approved internship
Major Responsibilities and Duties
  • Serve a diverse population of students who may be participating in state/federal programs as well as general education.
  • Establish and maintain a professional relationship and open communication with parents, students, colleagues, and community members.
  • Abide by the Alief ISD Code of Civility.
  • Maintain an acceptable attendance rate – 94% annually (excluding approved leaves and emergencies).
  • Confer with and foster professional relationships with students, parents, colleagues, and administrators on a regular basis per building and district guidelines.
  • Plan and participate in all meetings and provide appropriate documentation for students regarding admissions, reviews, progress, grades, dismissals, conferences, etc.
  • Comply with state and federal laws, district policies, rules, regulations and administrative directives as they exist or may hereafter be amended.
Instructional Strategies
  • Plan and teach a program of study in accordance with the Texas Education Agency (TEA), district mandates and curricula.
  • Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of the TEA and district’s curriculum program and provide written evidence of preparation as required.
  • Implement instructional, linguistic, and/or modifications and accommodations per admissions, review, and dismissal committees as well as Section 504 and RTI committees.
  • Work cooperatively with special education teachers and interventionists to modify curricula for struggling students and those with IEPs.
  • Work with other staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements.
  • Diagnose the learning needs of all students and seek the assistance of building and district leadership for appropriate intervention methods, techniques and strategies.
Student Growth and Development
  • Assess ongoing accomplishments and needs of students, maintain records, provide immediate feedback and progress reports per building and district guidelines.
  • Administer state assessments as appropriate to the student population.
  • Provide small group instruction.
  • Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned and sponsor outside activities approved by the campus principal.
  • Serve as a positive role model for students and support the mission of the school district.
Classroom Management and Organization
  • Create an inviting, risk‑free, supportive, and warm learning environment appropriate to the developmental level and interests of students.
  • Implement an effective discipline management system aligned with building and district policies.
  • Manage student behavior in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and handbook.
  • Take precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Assist in selecting instructional materials.
  • Compile, maintain, and file required reports, records, and documents.
Professional Growth and Development
  • Participate in professional development activities to improve job‑related skills.
  • Comply with state, district, and federal laws and policies for classroom teachers.
  • Attend faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
Other Responsibilities
  • Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  • Maintain technology competence to meet current and future needs.
  • Implement alternative methods of instruction as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities

Direct the work of any assigned instructional aide(s).

Evaluation

Performance is evaluated in accordance with the Board’s policy on teacher evaluation under the Texas Teacher Evaluation and Support System (T‑TESS).

Demands and Environmental Factors

Tools and equipment used: standard office equipment, computer, and peripherals. Posture involves standing, prolonged sitting, occasional kneeling/squatting, bending, pushing, pulling, twisting. Motion includes repetitive hand motions and keyboarding. Lifting moderate to heavy loads up to 45 pounds. Environment may involve prolonged or irregular hours, district travel, indoor and outdoor work, exposure to noise.
