Job description

PURPOSE OF JOB:

Provide leadership for the school’s entire athletic program through the ongoing development, implementation, and improvement of specific activities sponsored.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Provide leadership in team dynamics according to MSHSAA standards for the activity of Sideline Cheer;
  2. Implement and enforce activity standards as outlined in the MSHSAA Handbook and attend all MSHSAA required sessions for sponsors;
  3. Plan and administer Assistant Sponsor responsibilities;
  4. Plan activities that support the school’s athletic teams;
  5. Ensure Cheer/Dance Team participation in all Girls/Boys JV/Varsity home contests in basketball, football, and volleyball;
  6. Make plans for the team to support soccer, baseball, track, cross country, and swim in either promotion or “cheer section” during contests or events;
  7. Assist in the coordination of the program;
  8. Be responsible for student supervision at practices and contests;
  9. Coordinate with athletic team Head Coach for transportation and game management;
  10. Assume responsibility for the care of equipment and facilities being used, inspect all athletic equipment and facilities (verify inventory), and submit documentation to the Athletic Director;
  11. Organize and schedule practice sessions regularly to develop student-participants’ potential;
  12. Emphasize safety precautions and be aware of best training and injury management procedures;
  13. Conduct team and self in an ethical manner during practices and contests, exemplifying the highest standards of sportsmanship;
  14. Ensure regulations governing building use and hours are understood and enforced;
  15. Arrange for systematic return of all school equipment, maintain accurate inventory, and hold students responsible for equipment not returned, in accordance with the KCMSD Athletic Department Handbook;
  16. Maintain records of team and individual accomplishments, and arrange for the issuance of letters and awards, submitting all information to the Athletic Director within two weeks after the season's end;
  17. Collaborate with the site-based Athletic Director to provide a solid program;
  18. Pursue professional growth through clinics and publications;
  19. Complete the MSHSAA Coaching Principles Course and First Aid Requirement;
  20. Perform other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Student-participants

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must have a Teacher's Certificate, valid Substitute Certificate, or Temporary (provisional) Teacher’s Certificate.

This job requires the ability to sit, stand, walk, speak, hear, use hands and fingers, reach with hands and fingers, bend, stoop, and lift objects of at least fifteen (15) pounds. Visual ability includes mono and color vision.
