Job description

PURPOSE OF JOB: Provide instruction, leadership, and supervision to middle school students participating in the sports program.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Conduct practices emphasizing teamwork, skill development, learning rules and strategies, and student-athlete improvement.
2. Engage in academic monitoring with teachers, counselors, and other support staff. Ensure student-athletes attend required study hall.
3. Supervise student-athletes before, during, and after practices and contests, including in locker rooms, on buses, and at all other times. Be punctual for practices and games and remain until all student-athletes have left.
4. Take responsibility for the care of equipment and inventory. Inspect athletic equipment and facilities, verify inventory, and submit documentation to the Athletic Director/Principal.
5. Conduct oneself ethically during practices and contests, exemplifying high standards of sportsmanship and leadership, serving as a model for participants.
6. Complete all required paperwork, including rosters, physicals, insurance forms, and parent consent forms.
7. Collaborate with the Principal to provide a solid program.
8. Engage in professional growth through clinics and publications.
9. Manage all aspects of player development, fundraising, promotion, and supervision of assistant coaches.
10. Hold full responsibility for all program aspects.
11. Promote student-athletes' academic and athletic accomplishments.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Student-Athletes and Assistant Coach(s)

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Possess a four-year college degree and be contracted by the KCMSD Board of Education as a full or part-time teacher or have 1-3 years of coaching experience.
2. Knowledge of the specific sport, including philosophy and coaching techniques.
3. Successfully complete the MSHSAA/NFHS Coaching Principles Course and Sports First Aid Courses.
4. Strong commitment to the student-athlete concept and working knowledge of collegiate eligibility regulations.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Employment as a teacher or administrator in the school where applying for the coaching position.
