PURPOSE OF JOB:
Provide leadership for the school’s entire athletic program through the ongoing development, implementation, and improvement of specific activities sponsored.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide leadership in team dynamics according to MSHSAA standards for the activity of Sideline Cheer;
- Implement and enforce activity standards as outlined in the MSHSAA Handbook and attend all MSHSAA required sessions for sponsors;
- Plan and administer responsibilities of the Assistant Sponsor;
- Plan activities that support the school’s athletic teams;
- Ensure Cheer/Dance Team participation in all Girls/Boys JV/Varsity home contests in basketball, football, and volleyball;
- Make plans for the team to support soccer, baseball, track, cross country, and swim in either promotion or as a “cheer section” during contests or events;
- Assist in the coordination of the program;
- Be responsible for student supervision at practices and contests;
- Coordinate with the athletic team Head Coach for transportation and game management;
- Responsible for the care of equipment and facilities used, including inspecting all athletic equipment and facilities (verify inventory) and submitting documentation to the Athletic Director;
- Organize and schedule practice sessions regularly to develop the student-participants’ potential;
- Emphasize safety precautions and be knowledgeable about training and injury management procedures;
- Conduct team activities and personal conduct ethically during practices and contests, exemplifying high standards of sportsmanship;
- Ensure regulations for building use and hours are understood and enforced;
- Arrange for systematic return of all school equipment, maintain accurate inventory, and hold students accountable for equipment not returned, in accordance with the KCMSD Athletic Department Handbook;
- Maintain records of team and individual accomplishments and coordinate the issuance of letters and awards, submitting all information to the Athletic Director within two weeks after the season’s end;
- Collaborate with the site-based Athletic Director to strengthen the program;
- Pursue ongoing professional growth through clinics and professional publications;
- Complete the MSHSAA Coaching Principles Course and First Aid requirements;
- Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must possess a Teacher’s Certificate, valid Substitute Certificate, or Temporary (provisional) Teacher’s Certificate.
