2025-26 Head Boys Girls Track and Field Coach (Southeast High)

Purpose of Job

Provide leadership for the school’s entire athletic program through the ongoing development, implementation, and improvement of the specific sport coached.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Compete with a full team in a complete varsity schedule (according to MSHSAA standards).
  2. Implement and enforce athletic standards as outlined in the MSHSAA Handbook and attend all required sessions for head coaches and professional development meetings.
  3. Supervise students during practices and contests in accordance with KCMSD Athletic Department guidelines.
  4. Maintain and inspect all athletic equipment and facilities; verify inventory and document accordingly.
  5. Conduct practices and contests ethically, exemplifying high standards of sportsmanship and leadership.
  6. Manage equipment return, maintain inventory, and hold students accountable for equipment not returned.
  7. Keep records of team and individual achievements, and coordinate awards and letters.
  8. Submit all season-related information to the Athletic Director within two weeks of season end.
  9. Collaborate with the Principal to develop a strong athletic program.
  10. Pursue professional growth through clinics and publications.
  11. Handle all aspects of player development, fundraising, promotion, and supervising assistant coaches.
  12. Set and evaluate performance goals for each season.
  13. Promote student-athletes' academic and athletic accomplishments.
  14. Provide contest statistics to media and public relations.
  15. Complete 8 hours of professional development annually, including clinics and meetings.
  16. Complete required coaching courses and sports first aid courses.
  17. Understand and adhere to collegiate eligibility regulations.
Supervisory Responsibilities

Student-athletes and assistant coaches.

Minimum Qualifications
  1. Four-year college degree or 1-3 years coaching experience, and employment as a teacher or administrator in the district.
  2. Knowledge of the sport's philosophy and coaching techniques.
  3. Completion of MSHSAA/NFHS Coaching Principles Course and Sports First Aid Courses.
  4. Strong commitment to student-athlete development and understanding of collegiate eligibility rules.
Preferred Qualifications

Employment as a teacher or administrator at the school where applying for coaching.

Physical Demands

Sit, stand, walk, speak, hear, use hands, reach, bend, stoop, and lift at least 25 pounds.
